I wrote all of these tropes while sitting in my comfy chair, tap-tapping at my thocky keyboard, and drinking my beverage of choice. You can find them in Speak with the Dead, my debut epic fantasy inspired by Lord of the Rings and Dungeons & Dragons. #indieauthor #fantasyauthor #fantasy #tropes

Had a blast at the Michigan Renaissance Festival! It was muddy and a little rainy, but we still got to see knights jousting and strong men throwing heavy things (the Irish Heavy Games)!

Immerse yourself in mysterious ruins in the woods, or a vast, dark castle that breathes, or a ship sailing the coast at night. Find yourself in the midst of fierce sword fights, puzzling court intrigue, or peaceful forest campfires. Count birds, or omens. #fantasybooks #action #adventure #quest

There are certainly low cost or no cost "opportunities", but there are also so many that are more expensive and those ones seem to get pushed at us a lot more. 🙃

110

E. C. Taylor @etay1010.bsky.social · 05/08/2026

Hey, if you have an "exciting opportunity" for an indie author, please state how much it's going to cost the indie author and if you need free copies of their book from the beginning, thanks! Most of us can't afford to spend hundreds and provide free copies willy-nilly!

This is how much I spent to self-publish Speak with the Dead! I am so, so fortunate and privileged to be able to afford these costs, but also be aware that authors self-publish for much less all the time. This is just what worked for me and my budget. #indieauthor #selfpublished #debutbook
