While I'm not a lawyer, I'm pretty sure that's what's happening from a legal standpoint. The exception are stores like gog or *some* itch games, since they just give you a DRM free executable.

yeah, it's not like this is actually that big of a change, they sell a digital only version of the PS5, and the discs rarely contain a playable version of the game, you mostly need to download something first.

I will almost always try to use FOSS when I can, or at the very least software that is open in other ways, like obsidian for notes, which stores its files as either JSON, which is human readable and easily exportable, or markdown, which is even better at both.

As long as you're not playing any kernel level anti cheat games, gaming works fine. (If you're using steam then it's the same as windows, just with an additional checkbox to enable proton) Microsoft has well and truly lost my trust, once I tried fedora I knew I was never daily driving windows again
