The level before the last campaign level provides an additional break for your tormented brain by offering a callback to the difficulty of earlier puzzles. Not trivial (especially reaching gold), but a welcome and "Deserved Break".

Hording it does not, but the way to get it does. You only stack more rupture if you selfdamage yourself. So its something you can't just exploit to much.

Both happens. I had streamers and youtubers that just played around getting amazing combos. One Co-op stream ended in such deep tactics, trading, plans.. It all came together. So I guess both works. Mostly I was surprised how much strategy can go into the builds.
