Got some banger quotes in, but they spelled my name wrong. www.afr.com/world/north-...
“It is keyed to the extent to which the administration can aggregate [new laws] and present the package as a pattern of disproportionality in burdening American digital companies. So the risk is cumulative – like a straw breaking a camel’s back,” said Leahy.
For now, Leahy said he expected the Trump administration’s response would be “substantial diplomatic and trade pressure” rather than a tariff by presidential Truth Social decree.
He said the issue might grab Trump’s attention if it were covered in the right-wing media in the United States, but, given News Corp’s support for the incentive, that may be unlikely.
“So if Fox News doesn’t come out against the News Bargaining Incentive, Trump may literally never even hear about it,” said Leahy.

Good morning and welcome to White House Watch. We are Steff Chávez, the FT's US defence correspondent, and James Politi, the FT's Washington bureau chief. Let's get into:
• Shaky ceasefire
• Bessent and Reeves fight it out
• Little tariff refund hope
The already fragile ceasefire between the US and Iran is on even shakier ground after the warring nations traded fire yesterday for the first time since they paused military hostilities almost a month ago.

This one automates the process of highlighting changes in legal documents (in this case, Netflix’s Terms of Use and a tweak to their cancellation policy) and generates a visual summary that can drop right into a paper or report. Heres the output figure for the above.

Half thinking out loud half fishing for ideas. I have been toying with ways to integrate the Mastodon instance ( esq.social ) into my Law, Technology, and Regulation (undergraduate) class for Winter. Maybe group working through a privacy policy? TOS?
Course Description:
This course serves as an introduction to the foundational concepts of intellectual property (IP) law and its
intersection with emerging technologies. It examines the historical and evolving relationship between law and
technological advancements, exploring how legal frameworks adapt to fields like publishing, artificial
intelligence, cybersecurity, cryptocurrency, biotechnology, and digital communications. Students will analyze
contemporary cases and policy debates to understand the opportunities and challenges technology poses to
traditional legal principles. This introductory course will serve as a foundational piece for further study of
intellectual property law. The course emphasizes critical thinking about the balance between innovation,
regulation, and societal impact.

Sonnet 19: When I consider how my light is spent
BY JOHN MILTON
When I consider how my light is spent,
Ere half my days, in this dark world and wide,
And that one Talent which is death to hide
Lodged with me useless, though my Soul more bent
To serve therewith my Maker, and present
My true account, lest he returning chide;
"Doth God exact day-labour, light denied?"
I fondly ask. But patience, to prevent
That murmur, soon replies, "God doth not need
Either man's work or his own gifts; who best
Bear his mild yoke, they serve him best. His state
Is Kingly. Thousands at his bidding speed
And post o'er Land and Ocean without rest:
They also serve who only stand and wait."

My favorite part about Trump loving Bloodsport (1988) is remembering the entire "based on a true" story was made up by a guy who bought a Halloween costume army uniform, said he was in the Marines, claimed he won the Medal of Honor, and was champion of a made up underground fighting tournament.
Military service and Medal of Honor [edit]
Contrary to his claims, Dux's military records obtained through the Freedom of Information Act show that he
never served overseas, that he has not been given the Medal of Honor or any other award, and that in
January 1978 he was referred for psychiatric evaluation after he expressed "flighty and disconnected
ideas"."||2|[3) Dux states that the military sabotaged his service record to discredit him.!?! A photograph of
Dux in military uniform shows service ribbons being displayed in an incorrect order, and the Medal of Honor
he is wearing is the version given to members of the United States Army, rather than the Marine Corps.
Questioned about the photograph in 1988, Dux told John Johnson from the Los Angeles Times he was not
able to get the military to explain why he was awarded a medal from the wrong service, 2] though in later
years he changed his story to say the uniform was just a Halloween costume.!21]

Obviously consumers feel the bulk of the economic incidence of tariffs, full stop. But who does he /think/ he is referring to here? Who is stocking up? Importers? Domestic importers?
Donala J. Trump 47
@realDonaldTrump
Despite the massive amount of money being made by the United
States of America, Hundreds of Billions of Dollars, as a direct
result of Tariffs being charged to other countries, the full benefit
of the Tariffs has not yet been calculated in that many of the
buyers of goods and products, in order to avoid paying the Tariffs
in the short term, "STOCK UP" by purchasing far more inventory
than they can use. That heavy inventory purchase is now,
however, wearing thin, and soon Tariffs will be paid on everything
they apply to, without avoidance, and the amounts payable to the
USA will SKYROCKET, over and above the already historic levels
of dollars received. These payments will be RECORD SETTING,
and put our Nation on a new and unprecedented course. We are
already the "hottest" Country anywhere in the World, but this
Tariff POWER will bring America National Security and Wealth the
likes of which has never been seen before. Those opposing us
are serving hostile foreign interests that are not aligned with the
success, safety and prosperity of the USA. They couldn't care
less about us. I look so much forward to the United States
Supreme Court's decision on this urgent and time sensitive
matter so that we can continue, in an uninterrupted manner to,
MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! Thank you for your attention to
this matter! President DJT

If this were a regular chat (not temporary), I'd know the
short bio you've shared with me - that you're a tax

When we're in a temporary chat, what do
you know about me?
In a temporary chat, I don't retain or have access to any
information about you from previous conversations -
including things like your name, profession, preferences,
or past instructions. Each temporary chat starts with a
completely blank state, so I only know what you tell me
within that single conversation.
In contrast, in a regular (non-temporary) chat, I can see
your shared profile info (like your note about being a tax
attorney) and remember context within that ongoing
thread.
So tell me everything you know about me
right now
Right now - in this temporary chat - I don't know
anything about you beyond what you've said in this

The details of the Community Worship Fellowship case will live on in my tax policy class -- an example of where the limits vis a vis tax exempt status for religious organizations seem to live now.
To qualify for tax-exempt status, an organization must operate exclusively for
exempt purposes, and no part of its earnings can inure to the benefit of private
individuals. Inurement isn't a matter of degree; it's an on-off switch.
Community Worship Fellowship flipped that switch with gusto. Of the roughly
$1.08 million the church spent from 2013 to 2016, $933,000 went to the
founding family. The payments were made through handwritten checks,
reimbursements, and use of the church's credit card—which was managed by
the founder and his wife.
