Sega/The Duck Corporation/True Motion/No Cliche (1999)

The jingle is synthesized in code (electric piano + pad + bells), 4 notes and a chord. Then it all goes through the AICA, Dreamcast' sound chip : 16-bit PCM in sound RAM, mixed and panned by its hardware channels + a bonus sound fx if you ever get lucky and get a foil edition!

Finally, the SOUND! This is where I had to experiment a little. The slide, the impact, the drips are recorded from my favorite cups (and a coin and water) and cut and edited with grace in Audacity

On top of that, I decided to add some color variants. The stickers are stored as greyscale masks, painted live by the Dreamcast PowerVR's offset color, so variants costs zero extra texture.

Every boot , the slide length, friction, gravity spin, which side it comes from, letter order... can be different, so you're never really seeing the same animation everytime.

The logo is by Makeyo Studio 🧡 (links below). every shape becomes a sprite packed into ONE 1024×1024 texture, VQ-compressed for the Dreamcast's PowerVR GPU, exactly 264 KB of vram

I've been working on various original projects for the Dreamcast these past few month. With that came the idea of a studio logo, and basically an intro for my upcoming Dreamcast games ☕ yes, this runs on Dreamcast and yes, those sounds are my actual coffee cups lol Wanna know more? check below ↓

Yep! A Dreamcast with a 200Mhz CPU and 16mb or RAM runs this at 60fps. I played the Nintendo Switch version and it struggles to stay smooth in late game, unlike this Dreamcast version 😳
