But at some level the govt and people who would still have power and resources by then would have to actually care about people doing that in order for it to matter. It's not like another country is going to come in and censure us or intervene with peacekeeping troops. Who has that power?

For one, the police absolutely will maim and kill us or allow private citizens to do so. Then they'll track down any survivors and harass them into poverty. Sure once everyone has nothing left to lose it'll be easy to gather the people on an all or nothing strategy of riots.

If it takes a whole family or social group just to keep one person off the streets, there's no way that individual people are going to be able to help when this becomes more widespread. This is why we can't be out in the streets like you see in other countries flipping over cars and setting fires.

I'm already literally leaning heavily on personal friends I've made. What if I didn't have them, or they didn't have the financial ability to keep helping me anymore? And they certainly can't afford to help anyone else like this while they're also helping me and I'm nowhere near back on my feet.

Don't think that a hostile government could not arbitrarily do this to people without just cause. That's the whole issue with not letting the government have the power to do unjust things even if you don't care about the people it's currently being done to.

We already don't have enough shelter spaces for the unhoused in the city as it is without numerous people having to go there unprepared when they had a home they were paying rent for the day before. There's no way that they had time to get out of their belongings out either.

Two entire apartment buildings of people in a place I used to live 20 years ago recently became unhoused because the city decided that the buildings were suddenly uninhabitable. The negative social media comments on the story were ghastly.

I recently shared about protests in my father's family's hometown during the Civil Rights movement and how people were reprized against by being fired from their jobs and evicted from their homes, because white Mississippians had that power over them.

And I can tell you as a part-time caregiver for an elder (in addition to my full time professional job) how hard it is to even get the equipment in the first place. These hmos get money for people under their programs and then never want to spend any of it on them.

A lot of ongoing medical equipment like wheelchairs and CPAP machines etc are not owned but leased, with the expectation of return upon the (miraculous) cessation of conditions that required the equipment, or the death of the user.

What if it were insulin or something life-saving? And what about medical care from professional providers to diagnose and treat and provide ongoing care? Access to professionals and medical equipment is expensive even for people who are insured. What happens when you lose that from protesting?

Money that I've been depending on as part of my budget to stay afloat the past several years, along with covering one of my daily medications, ceased last month with no indication of when the fund may reopen. And my health issues aren't even that serious compared to some others.

Protesting in these streets is in my blood and if it comes to all that I will be right out there getting gassed and beaten and arrested too. I acknowledge the privilege that I have not had to experience any of that yet. I really hoped that I never would but these men are leading us to a precipice.

Like the women are suddenly "dominating the conversation" when they reach like 30% of talk time thing. (I don't recall the exact % but it's less than half so literally men are still hogging the majority of attention, just less than before and that's enough for them to feel slighted and "silenced".)
