Yes. In SM you create your own in-group. And you are probably much more likely to almost uncritically accept what your own in-group tells you. It is how religions are spread, and cults perpetuate. Mix this with malicious bots with in-group 'weight' and boom.

Childrem are being taught to hate and to 'other' from a platform that is tailored to prey on their emotions - and one that is not possible to hold accountable. There is no way to check the 'records' and reconstruct what content readers were subjected to in the past.

In any population, there are around 30% who will go fascist if allowed by societal norms. Every country occupied by Germany in WWII had a sizable collaborator contingent fully signing up to the ideology, even UK/US. Communism/WWI/Wall street got Nazis in, Internet this lot.

The 'Labour' party seems these days to be there to lure workers to vote against their own interests. In a way like the National Socialists weren't the party of workers either, despite their 'Arbeiter' part. Hundreds of Labour MPs ok with this leads me to suspect Britain is fascist in the core.

BBCs charter merely has to allow for metrics/clicks be collected to end up like this. It is the cheapest and most convenient metric to use. Otherwise, BBC would have to do surveys and use those as input. And those only see the big picture. (Which prob is best anyway) can't have that!!
