Figured out programming an ESP32 Cam without the hat or an FDTI by just piggybacking another ESP32, cheesed big tech out of like $3 😎 Recipe (Host/Cam): H 3v3 > C 3v3 H Gnd > C Gnd H RX0 > C RX0 (or U0R) H TX0 > C TX0 (or U0T) H EN > H Gnd Cam IO0 is the boot button, ground it for boot mode.

A prototyping board with an ESP32 CAM module plugged into the top.

The other side of the board has an ESP32 WROOM plugged into a USB cable. The serial pins of each ESP32 are connected in parallel and the WROOM has pin EN grounded, preventing it from booting. This allows the Cam board to use the WROOM's programmer and USB port as it's own.
