Same here. Single, no kids, and a paid off car maybe. My dad died in 2004 and he was at about $65K with a paid off house and truck and he was struggling to retire.

The rent keeps going up, the house prices keep going up, and the interest rates keep going up. Groceries, medications, personal care, and cleaning products are way up. These are not recreational expenses. The math is telling me no one is living lavishly on 80K.

I was literally prescribed opiates to stay on my feet with an injury to work in a opiate detox hospital unit. The same facility did my x-rays, prescribed the pills, and sent me back work in 48 hrs.
