Fuck off. If I ever end up writing a book in this lifetime, there will be hell to pay if they tried to use an AI-generated cover design.....WTF...find a human artist/designer.

Is it though? Sadly the composition of the Cornell 7 seem quite diverse. Every kid has access to these same influences. And misogyny is not limited to white people.

I think you're right and developers and engineers have gone completely abstraction-brained here. Just because we're used to a trajectory of increasing abstractions...because we no longer touch the metal so to speak...we think everything else should also follow the same trajectory.

I find the idea of creating say music through only text instructions to be absolutely bizarre. And then the leap to the idea that ALL creative work can be created at the level of text abstraction is just inane (and insane) to me. Because non of the feedback is coming to you through the actual medium

EWL @ericwilliamlin.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Like...the creativity of working in any particular medium should be close to the natural surfaces of that medium! You want to feel the vibrations in music. You want to smell your ingredients in the process of cooking.

EWL @ericwilliamlin.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
The surface for food is ingredients and heat and tactile feel and smell. But for some reason the AI-geniuses want to flatten every surface for every medium of human creativity to a text-based one, one that's distinctly NOT native to most mediums.

EWL @ericwilliamlin.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
What drives me even more crazy is the attempt by some to want to use a chat/natural language interface as the PRIMARY one for all sorts of creative tasks. Like...the surface for music are instruments. The surface(s) for painting are brushes, and oils, and paint, and liquid.

At some point enough idiots decided “accessibility” meant “to dumb something down aggressively” and we’ve now wasted too much of our time because of it

I'm not saying we shouldn't do better. I think we absolutely should find better ways to keep in check our worst impulses. But systems need to be designed, and then...human systems need to then be disseminated and adopted. I'm not a big fan of organized religion, but it did solve some of this.

Most human systems have always rewarded sycophants in the right contexts. The question is can we build better (but still inperfect) systems to reduce sycophancy's impact on society.

But people looking at the numbers psychologically treat it like basketball scores. As if at this moment "x" is behind "y". But the mental model that creates is completely wrong.

EWL @ericwilliamlin.bsky.social · 30/05/2026
It's the problem with how we report on vote counts on election night, and also the types of user interfaces that have been designed by news orgs. It updates vote counts the same way as say...basketball scores. But basketball scores at any time DO reflect reality at that moment. Votes counts do not.

If you just want to shortcut your way to creative greatness, I'm sorry I don't think these tools will get you there. But if you already have some decent technical chops in your chosen medium, have interesting ideas, then yeah, I supposed these tools can be help in various stages of your process.
000
EWL @ericwilliamlin.bsky.social · 30/05/2026
But not, you can't rely on only prompting to get you a great 2-hour feature film. Or a truly great or even good 300-page novel. It's just nowhere close to that. And certainly not with the product design we're seeing with AI tools and wrappers right now. Not in any scalable way.

EWL @ericwilliamlin.bsky.social · 30/05/2026
The mistake some AI boosters are making is thinking that the current UI of AI is capable of making art of some complexity all in one shot. As a standalone tool. But that's just not the case. But we do know it can be, and is helpful doing some tasks in various parts of creative processes.
100
EWL @ericwilliamlin.bsky.social · 30/05/2026
Part of the problem with these debates is that as of right now, LLMs/Gen AI models and the typical tools built around them aren't by themselves capable of creating interesting art. They're still too limited to do anything at scale BY ITSELF.

EWL @ericwilliamlin.bsky.social · 27/05/2026
Though this over. In theory...but just that...I suppose if you didn't vote in the first primary this year, your party reg would be blank and if you think Talarico has a better chance against Paxton than Cornyn, then you could strategically go ask for a GOP runoff ballot.

EWL @ericwilliamlin.bsky.social · 27/05/2026
I forget what all the Texas party declaration events are, but I believe it also includes candidate petitions, so I've you added your name to get someone onto the ballot, you're also considered a member of that party for the rest of the year.
000
EWL @ericwilliamlin.bsky.social · 27/05/2026
You can't switch once you've voted in a particular party's primary. The party affiliation is through the calendar year and then resets.

Bleeding support from 90% to 70% will still get his candidate to win. But that 20% bleed will be devastating in the general in the fall.

We've already had a few statewide positions including 2 senators (in 3x elections) and 2 public service commissioners just last fall go blue in Georgia! I think it's already no longer a ruby red state, but let's see if the transition to a true purple/tilt blue state continues!
131
EWL @ericwilliamlin.bsky.social · 17/05/2026
the 52/53 in 2022 prob should be a light blue yeah.
010
EWL @ericwilliamlin.bsky.social · 17/05/2026
I'm assuming dark red is just >60% and light red is >50%? The consuming part is that all the numbers are from the Dem perspective. So they're under 40% (in 2022 for the 50-64 bracket) so it's dark red, but in 2026 they're somewhere between 40-50% so it's light red.
010
EWL @ericwilliamlin.bsky.social · 17/05/2026
The coloring is correct. Just a little counterintuitive. It's "less" Republican, since now dems are 48% of the total rather than 39%, but because it's still more GOP than Dem...presuamblly GOP is something like 51-52%, the color is still red. Just a lighter tint.

This is Miller's educational history. Really quite something. All elite institutions, and he's teaching at one right now! Either he was once ok and has just gone into the deep end...or we're all in a lot of trouble. On paper he isn't obviously just some hack!

I feel this all the time on YouTube. I know there's great content (an endless amount, more than consumable in one lifetime) but the decision paralysis is real. Wasted hours watching one minute of this, 2 minutes of that. I loved the feeling of buying an album or DVD and bringing that home to watch.

So, the kind of 貶謫/demotion-exile that's been popular for centuries? That happened to like every other official during the Tang and Song dynasties? How things change and never change...

There's more context to new art than just the prior art in that genre before it.
000
EWL @ericwilliamlin.bsky.social · 30/03/2026
But better to think of them as a phase shift. A discrete break from what came before it. Just like you wouldn't be able to get to Impressionism or microtonal music if you just trained an AI (again, as it current is) on all the music up to 1700.
