Gothic hybris. The French town of Beauvais had a decent 10-c Cathedral and in the 13th-c began to replace it with a magnificent gothic one: 48m high vaults, 153m tower. Both highest in the world. Only the eastern half was built; the tower collapsed. A monument to provincial infatuation, but a gem.

Gisteren bij EO's Dit is de week: alle sprekers met een joodse of Christelijke connectie met Israël zitten aan tafel. Nabil Sahhar zit aan een bijtafeltje in het publiek. Er moet kennelijk verschil zijn. Je zou toch denken dat tijd van koloniale verhoudingen voorbij zijn.

Visited the great exposition on Maarten van Heemskerck in Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar. Van Heemskerck was a brilliant, but largely forgotten painter from the early sixteenth century. A victim of the nationalization of art that since the 19th century has profoundly distorted our view of the past.
