Michigan's play that "shouldn't have had time added back" took less than 9 seconds to run -- from snap until the defender touched the ball. The officials were right to put time back on the clock. Watch it with a basketball-style countdown:

I don’t really know much about football, but imo, the coaching decision to try to do anything on offense on that end-of-half drive was worse than Bryce Underwood’s INT itself… but Underwood also looked horrible that half, which may be a bigger issue.

Awesome design by the Spurs on the final play. Everyone thought the ball would go to Wemby, so used him as a back screener with the rest of the Spurs lifted. Castle was open on the lob. But the Knicks very smartly put KAT on the ball and he deflected the inbounds. What a game.

KAT's defense on Wemby tonight was legitimately awesome. One of, if not the, best games I've seen him play on that end. I'm sure others have mentioned it, but I don't understand the Spurs playing Fox over Harper down the stretch.

Going from Dwayne Wade (and Candace Parker) to SVG calling games is like announcer whiplash. SVG is the 🐐, calling out adjustments and matchups in real time. Wade is… the total opposite.

Harden wanted absolutely no part of a big shot down the stretch for Cleveland

Deni Avdija was outstanding yet again and is clearly Portland’s best shot creator. Unfortunately for the Blazers, Scoot and Shaedon Sharpe, especially Sharpe, too often thought it was their turn to force individual plays. Can’t do that in the playoffs and against a defense as good as the Spurs.

Leak out after the contest. Lendeborg sprints in transition. Cadeau hits-ahead. Play out of a broken floor. 6 passes. 2 dribbles. All 5 players touch the ball. Layup.

If you would have told me pregame that Iowa would outrebound Florida, there is no way I would have believed you. Any of the other 4 factors, in one game, sure. But Florida is the best rebounding team in the country. They outrebounded every single opponent this season but one... until losing to Iowa

Also interesting... Jonathan Safir, Florida assistant, created a guide for fouling when leading with @kenpom.com in 2020. If Florida had fouled Stirtz, it wouldn't have been the right call according to Safir and Ken's chart:

Eric Shapiro @ericshap.bsky.social · 23/03/2026

Really interesting. According to Golden postgame, Florida intended to foul up 2, in the double bonus (likely fouling Stirtz, an 84% FT shooter). If that happens, Iowa can only tie, Florida gets the last shot if he makes both, and very likely go to OT at worst as 10.5 point favorites pregame.

This may not be of interest to anybody, but Michigan’s first-round opponent the last two years are my Dad’s alma maters — UC San Diego and Howard. There may not be another person with that combination. UC San Diego has made one D1 NCAA tournament and Howard only five. Kind of insane.

How many times do you get to hit someone in the nuts before you get kicked out of a game for it? Or do you get a pass if your (HOF) coach says it’s only called because the player has a target on his back?

Michigan defends baseline out of bounds (BLOB) plays with its Center guarding the inbounder to prevent easy passes and quick-hitting looks. Mara is guarding the inbounder, Wagler. Illinois takes advantage, immediately passing back to Wagler so he can isolate on Mara & he creates a 4-point play.

I am glad we didn’t end up podding before Michigan-Illinois because I thought this was a bad matchup. I was totally wrong. Michigan’s size, physicality, and athleticism totally overwhelmed Illinois. Extremely impressive performance. Probably the best of Michigan’s season.

Eric Shapiro @ericshap.bsky.social · 25/02/2026

Michigan is extremely lucky to have a lead at halftime. Defensive errors on nearly every possession against Minnesota’s off-ball screening and cutting. Saved by tons of missed open looks from 3 and M fixing some mistakes on the fly with their length.

Illinois scored 7(!) baskets directly targeting Conor Enright to get him switched onto David Mirkovic. If Illinois finds a matchup it likes, it will hunt it relentlessly. Versus Indiana, Enright was the target.
