The MAGA movement is cocooning. It’s going dormant and will metamorphose, emerging in a couple of years in a different form. Metamorphosis enables Republicans to erase their own failures from memory and reconstitute as if their movement was something new. epurchaseattack.substack.com/p/the-ominou...

The Ominous Absence of MAGA Hats
Has anyone seen the MAGA cap I passed as I left the local Chinese restaurant the day after the 2024 election?

Fire Beane and Brady, rehire McDermott. The defense is not going in the right direction. Whether it's the roster or the coaching, it's Beane's doing. The offense is regressing. Wasn't Brady supposed to unshackle Josh? That's two lame performances in a row against beatable teams.

Does anyone doubt that the #BuffaloBills would have a stronger defense if McDermott were still the coach?

I propose that one problem of concentrated wealth is that billionaires don't invest in new ventures because customers have less money to spend. If you give workers more money, they spend it, and that creates new opportunities for businesses.

Republican Party: Say you want jobs and growth. Republican voters: I want jobs and growth. Democrats: Supporting poor children turns them into healthier, more productive adults. RP: Say you don't want to be told what to think. RVs: I don't want to be told what to think.

Yup. The lesson Republicans took from Watergate was that they need to get better at lying.

Elon Musk is a racist. He hates black people, and he took his chance to kill lots of them.

Republicans ran head first into reality. They are delusional and kept believing in ideas that had failed repeatedly. They rallied behind Trump who implemented their ideas without any constraints. Next Republicans will say that Trump wasn't a real conservative.

A Republican Party that supported Trump completely will pretend that the resulting disasters were bad luck or a gigantic conspiracy. Because they don't have the grace and the courage to face the fact that their ideas failed again.

Markets are never "free." They are designed. Somebody sets the rules. If somebody makes $200 billion in a market, it's because that's how the rules were set up. But the rules didn't have to be set up that way.

I guess it was a mistake to support Trump for the last 10 years, then. With that poor judgment, Wicker should apologize and resign.

I've been expecting a blue wave since 2016. The fact that it hasn't happened yet shows how delusional Republican voters are. That's what Democrats must attack to rescue tge country permanently from Republican insanity.

If someone says they're going to smash your thumb with a hammer and you don't pull it away but keep yelling "Go for it!" even as they're bringing the hammer down, you don't get to blame them afterwards for smashing your thumb.

Trump has always believed that saying you have done something is better than actually doing it. Because it costs nothing to say whereas doing is expensive, and most people won't know the difference till it's too late. His life proves him right. He's POTUS.

It's strange that phenomenology--the study of how humans experience the world--remains largely a subject for the most rational of disciplines: philosophy.

That gives Trump too much credit for understanding how things work. He know that the stock market goes up when rates go down, and he thinks that's the same as economic growth.

Republican voters: "I voted for Trump 3 times. I'm not voting Republican this time, but I can't bring myself to vote for Democrats." Why not? "It's too embarrassing to admit I've been wrong my whole life and those sanctimonious Democrats have been right."

Republicans expect the rest of us to respect their opinions and take them seriously even when they have been disproved repeatedly.

This is the problem with Republicans in general. They are so immersed in right-wing fantasies that they've lost the ability to reason.

Satan: "Tell them to burn it all down. They'll be stupid enough to fall for it, and you'll get tax breaks." Tech bros: "I'll pay you a lot of money to tell people to burn it all down." Right-wing media: "Burn it all down!" Republicans: "Let's burn down the tech bros, too." Satan chuckles.

How could truckers and the businesses that rely on them have known that a lying, incompetent Trump would become a lying, incompetent president. No one could have foreseen that, except people anchored in reality.

I'm not outraged at Trump, who is doing what he has done his whole life. I'm outraged at the Republican Party and Republican voters for supporting him completely. Trump will be gone soon; they will still be with us.

The Democratic brand was damaged by cautious/lazy establishment leaders who did nothing to change voters from thinking like Republicans to thinking like Democrats.

Agree. Democrats' big mistake is thinking that voters are immovably what Republicans groomed them to be over the last 50 years.

I am old enough to remember Richard Nixon. What he did was criminal, but basically more stupid than anything. He didn't hurt American citizens. He was just paranoid. Compare to Trumpy who has cost everyone so much, it's not even a fair comparison. Trumpy makes billions while all of us suffer.

This was the real value of Trump. He acted on beliefs that Republicans dangled in front of voters but were never stupid enough to do. Now we're seeing the value of everything Republicans hate and are trying to destroy.
