An SVG inside <img> has always been a styling dead end: you can place it, but you can’t paint it. CSS Linked Parameters fix that in Firefox Nightly, so I traced Warhol’s Marilyn and repainted it nine times from one 50 KB file 💅 pepelsbey.dev/articles/svg...
Nine Marilyn Monroe portraits in a three by three grid, each in a different set of colors: pink and yellow, turquoise and orange, plum and navy, lilac and sky blue, magenta and orange, mint and amber, grey and slate blue, green and brick red, teal and magenta.

Substantively: - Can't wait to see a prototype and how it behaves vs CSS background images, progressive JPEG-XLs, and file-embedded previews like AVIF has been developing - Interactions with intrinsic size and LCP are gonna be weird - Previews SHOULD deliver legibility > beauty; hard problem!

1000% agreed. Classes like that are solving specificity problems by flattening the cascade. Newfangled feature Cascade Layers solves the same problems by running in the opposite direction, making the cascade more controllable, flexible, and dare I say humane.

I’m not saying you‘re not technical, or capable! Just — Mia (who’s in the CSSWG and is responsible for some of my favorite new stuff, like container queries and scope and cascade layers) expresses a holistic vision of what CSS could and should be — really expressing what these new features are for.

Twice a year, Hawai'i experiences a strange moment where the sun appears to be exactly overhead & anything that is completely vertical casts no shadow. Let's learn about Lāhainā Noon, subsolar points & 'Kau ka lā i ka lolo', meaning "the sun rests on the brains."
From a Reddit forum, a photo of a can of coconut milk with a blue label, papyrus text and a flip-top, on a sidewalk. It seems to hover because there's no visible shadow. The pavement is sort of unevenly colored, with bright spots, and the grass along it is green and lush.

In a forest, or underwater, is it problematic to assume a D65-adapted eye? My understanding is that when everything is so blue or green, our brains adapt to a different white point, and what we see shifts towards neutral.

The features @miriam.codes has helped bring to CSS (Cascade Layers, Container Queries, Scope) have been rooted in a deep understanding of CSS’ _ethos_. They try to close the gap between how CSS could be used, and how it commonly is. If you want to close that gap in your own work (I do!), sign up

There's a magic to it! And there's a freedom to being outside the realm of commercial activity that can be great for really chasing that magic (and building community - Ravelry!). But without money or jobs, opportunities to practice a craft decline, and IMO the craft ultimately suffers.
