Why does a dead LPC clock result in apparently dead systems? It appears that the SoC's clock pins are also used to select between LPC and SPI boot ROM types at power-on - so the CPU tries to boot from LPC. Two small problems: everyone uses SPI flash ICs and the LPC boot option doesn't work at all.

The board design stroke of good luck reminds me of Supermicro A1S boards with the C2000 SoC. The LPC clock output dies after a while, and the fix is to bodge in some pull-ups. Some vendors had crazy reworks, but Supermicro had two pairs of pads they could use for 0402s.
Back of a Supermicro A1SRi-2558F motherboard affected by the C2000 bug that caused seemingly dead systems. The official repair/bodge from Supermicro is not installed.Back of a Supermicro A1SRi-2758F motherboard affected by the C2000 bug that caused seemingly dead systems, after official repair by Supermicro. Two 0402 resistors (marked with red rectangles) were added taking advantage of existing pads that coincidentally were close enough to use 0402 resistors.

Have you learned a thing or two about dynamite yet?

Sounds like a dodgy solution looking for a problem, so I guess I hope they get the money to misallocate into this boondoggle in the making (pun not intended).

Those are typically industrial screens, with the brains being far more loosely coupled (either as a module or an entirely separate box)... So the risk is likely much lower there. Of course, some places may cheap out and buy consumer TVs for such applications...

Nonsense. Getting electricity is easier than getting fuel in the vast majority of abnormal situations. Fun fact: gas stations run on electricity. Not-so-fun fact: most gas station don't have backup generators.

Battery lifetime was never "very short". What did exist was a bunch of infant mortality in new models (also a common scourge in ICE cars), plus Nissan shooting themselves in the face with their YOLO approach to battery thermal management - other EVs do not have that problem.

Beats being blind for days while a new one is rushed in. There are no easy choices here, especially when so few units exist.

Anti-radiation munitions would be a cut above the likes of shaheds. Frequent repositioning would at least mitigate the low-end attacks with fixed-target munitions and probably reduce the effectiveness of even "TV" munitions (be they remotely piloted or AI-driven).

Hey man, "rated for 16 A" means I'm going to get the 16 A I paid for. But seriously, many (most?) European Lvl. 2 charging cables are limited to 10 A, even though Schuko is rated for 16 A. Exceptions do exist (but the only one I've ever held was DoA and replaced with a 10 A).

I suspect bad gadget (phone/tablet/laptop) experiences, which everyone has had, contribute to this poisoning of discourse. As it turns out, investing in better battery management, as most cars have done, does wonders for battery health. The old Leaf didn't and I hear it's pretty terrible...

Instead of keeping her dignity, she's pawned it off. And she's still not getting a free country in return.

Freaking stainless steel pots and pans are basically indestructible to a dishwasher. I have a few cheapos that are 20 years old, which I hate because the handles collect water, and they just last forever, depriving me of an opportunity to replace them.

Not impossible, but rather unlikely for such a statement to be put out on a Saturday.

Brazil having a more robust democracy than the US was definitely not on my bingo card for the 2020s.

Cell networks were iffy from the moment power went out, I couldn't make a single call until after the power came back an hour ago. Data services were wildly unstable, then everything stopped in the middle of the afternoon.

I dunno how it flew under my radar, it's somehow campier than the zero-budget ZFS promo/demo video with the mountain of swag-grade USB flash drives in RAIDZ1.

It's a surprisingly poorly-documented fact that Thunderbolt cables do in fact work as standard USB cables, despite the bespoke fancy drivers that enable longer runs. I think I had to try it on a whim to find out that they did work.

We kinda have that in Portugal, except it's not strictly tied to the domestic electricity provider (though bundles do exist). Single contract works everywhere with an RFID or NFC card and it mostly works great... Except that they screwed up the billing model in ways that inflate the price.

Peak Federation hubris, but it reminds me of the Burger King truck. It's power projection through the power of "fuck you, we do it because we can". Between the Borg and the Dominion, that little experiment didn't last all that long in the scheme of things.

700 W seems to be on the low end of what's typically on the shelves. 750 W to 900 W is common enough.

Maybe if ESA and the EU stopped financing endless dissemination platforms that offer no meaningful improvements and compete against each other to see who can waste the most public money creating yet another platform with this year's buzzword du jour attached...
