It's right out of the rightwing aggitator playbook. Willfully misrepresent the facts. You can pick any book or none. He implies that it should be the Bible and that someone swearing on the Quran is some deviant act of treason.

Great that you can swear a religious or non-religious oath. My beef as a Republican is that you still have to brown-nose Charlie by....."I do solemnly, sincerely, and truly declare and affirm, That I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to His Majesty King Charles...." Barfff

I loathe Trump but.. 1) 'barely read' - she can clearly read 2) She doesn't look like Ivanka. These are lazy/inaccurate statements that will be rightly attacked as cheap and misogynistic. From the video, she doesn't have great command of the podium and comes across as an Apprentice contestant.

Serious but dumb/ignorant question. What military capability will Ukraine never have and what will they likely develop in 1-3 years and thus not need US or allies i.e. their drone capability is presumably world-leading and bypasses need for other weaponry?

I just like the fact that it's going back to representative democracy 101. None of this will of the people bollocks. New governments undo things all of the time. Why does Brexit get special status. It is a massive shiny turd at the centre of our politics that cannot be thrown in the trash.

I do wonder if there are fascist brainstorming sessions where after years of failed strategies, someone thought of the evil genius idea of brainwashing people via the hook of having the best sports section, sudoko, cartoon page etc

Slight tangent. My parents buy the Sunday Mail because it has the best TV guide. I point out that it is a right-wing propaganda rag. They said they are very aware, but read the rest of it anyway and absorb the bilge by osmosis.

Bang on. It felt like good insights and analysis expressed in brilliantly funny and playful language. Then it move to mean first, funny second, analysis third.

Most intriguing. I remember loving her column. Felt like language was an orchestra and she could play every instrument. Then it got a bit mean and prioritised the cheap gag. Was turned off by her argument against Fossil Free Books. Seemed very inconsistent with the writing in her column.

I haven't kept tabs on him, but after appearing fairly sensibly as Chair of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee, he seemed to enter the realm of nominative determinism in relation to his nickname.....TugenTwat.

I'm not clear why their choice of footwear is a factor here! I don't think they'd be more or less effective in a pair of Church's brogues.

I do find it extraordinary. If someone sent that to a colleague on a work email, joining in with the pile on, they'd almost certainly be disciplined or sacked. But, no, absolutely fine to publish that in national newspapers.

I feel a deep musical immaturity compared to others here. I got stuck in the 90s, apart from the siren sounds of Roberta.

Perhaps it's the clear link. He goes to war. Screws the global oil price pooch. Had to go to suckle at Putin's diesel pumps for a pitiful amount of fuel. So self-defeating and all in plain sight.

I'm in the UK and I know that every time Trump does some abhorrent thing, you hope this might be the beginning of the end and it never is. But, there is something about this that just feels significant.

Art of the deal my f%cking arse. 1. c$70bn US military costs and $50-100bn to allies 2. Give Iran a legitimate reason to close the Strait of Hormuz 3. Cost the global economy c$1-3trillion 4. Force up domestic fuel prices and inflation 5. Beg Putin for diesel 3 weeks before the midterms

If something does happen where the spell is broken, it may likely be something minor...straw, back, camel etc. Boris Johnson's downfall, to me, was the former Head of the Foreign Office saying that he lied and a few days later Johnson saying he would be PM for a decade....dominos started to topple.

This feels less Putin stooge and more utterly incompetent President thrashing around a geopolitical chess board, playing an aggressive game that he doesn't have the skill or temperament to play. All the jawboning has failed. Midterms upon him. Time to call Putin Fuels Inc for some diesel.

Agreed. I find these arbitrary political pile-ons weird. 2nd worst performance for Labour in Holborn since Frank Dobson in 2005, 43.2%, but no mention of that. If the narrative was Burnham had a bad start, this is what would be blaring from the political fog horns.
000
ericliddel.bsky.social @ericliddel.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
Agreed. Criticising someone for being social media savvy is frankly bizarre. Also, what did Burnham do straight out of the traps, a bunch of social media videos.

Agreed. The footballisation of political polls and byelection results seems to have infected political analysis of the trends and results. Everyone expected to be on the rise up the table at all times. Membership rocketed. MPs elected. Second party in Holborn. But no....Polanski has to go.

I don't understand the analysis that it was a given that Feinstein's votes moved across. They would have not just split to the Greens. If they all did then that is an achievement in itself. Remove the Zionism vote and say Greens did same or 1-2000 more. It would be considered to be a good effort.
