Luciferus (Light-Bringer) in Roman mythology, is the son of Aurora (Dawn) and the male personification of the planet Venus heralding the coming of the Sun. In the evening the Romans called him Noctiferus (Night-Bringer), heralding the descent of the Night. He was the one who organized the heavens.

Matsya (Fish in Sanskrit) was the first Avatar of Vishnu in Hindu mythology. Vishnu, the Preserver, along with Brahma, the Creator and Shiva, the Destroyer, form the holy trinity in Hinduism known as the Trimurti. #merman #matsya #hinduism #mythology #vishnu #india #vedas

Mélusine, or Mélusina, is not only seen today in the Starbucks logo, but was also the prototype of Andersen’s The Little Mermaid, where she becomes the symbol of the outsider who does everything to be accepted. #melusine #ladyofthelake #celticmythology #mermaid

The Iara (from old Tupi Y - water and îara - lady), or Mãe d'Água is a water Goddess of the Amazon River for the Tupi-Guaraní tribes of Brazil. She was syncretized with Yemanjá and they are often times seen as one. #mermaid #mythology #folclorebrasileiro #iara
