Elon Musk has made a deal to steal our retirement funds.
You don't have to believe. If you have a 401k you will be an investor 15 days after launch.

The IPO will go great, because the company will float a fairly small issuance. The big shareholders will not immediately sell. They will hold on and maybe even buy to support the price.

Then, after 15 days, it will enter the indexes and everyone's 401k will start auto-buying this stock.

You might say this is an obvious flaw in how the indexes work if they start immediately accept a brand new IPOed stock with limited float. You'd be right, which is why they won't list for a year.

At least they wouldn't until Elon got them to change their rules:

A perfect example of revisionist history

Reviewed in the United States on September 27, 2018
Format: Paperback

I had to read this for a course in college, and the author was my professor. The course was called "Southern Cultural and Intellectual History" but might as well have been called "Gilpin's diatribe on the South." First of all, John Brown was clearly a terrorist, both in his day and according to the modern definition. Brown killed an innocent black man named Heyward Shepherd, tried to start a slave insurrection (with no support), and had a constitution that would have made him the leader of a new black nation.

I'm tired of professors like Gilpin slanting American history, and don't appreciate this interpretation of Brown being some Christ-like symbol.

Gilpin marched our class to the South Carolina statehouse on our last class together and ranted about the Confederate battle flag in front of the capitol building. This showed me that not only was he not an objective historian, but unapologetically anti-Southern and probably a cultural Marxist. Avoid this book at all costs, unless you are just in need of a headache...

So clever of the US Treasury Secretary to point out that his disengenuous statements on tarrifs and inflation are supported by a study showing that tarrifs wreck the economy in general.

essentially she articulated a financial path for OpenAl to make sense despite all the insane numbers

1. They need a huge amount of money to stay on the cutting edge. compute grew 20x in 2 years. to do that again, will take a trillion dollars at current compute costs

2. to pay for that, they have revenue, they have VC investment but thirdly they need "financial innovation" on financing their chips

3. that means deals like the AMD one, where they essentially get a sweetheart deal because the proximity to OpenAl boosts AMD's stock price and business prospects

4. they also would like federal guarantees on loans so PE and banks are more comfortable giving multi-billion dollar loans for chips

5. the complex part is that they don't know how long the chip lifecycle is. if it's 2 years it's hard to finance. if it's 7 years it's easier. OpenAl will always need the best chips available to maintain their edge. At the same time, they're currently using 6, 7 yr old chips because their compute demand is super high they're using everything they've got.

6. Additionally, they will do creative commercial deals. So they're not just gonna sell access to a pharma company on a per token basis. theyre going to demand a rev share of the profit the pharma company brings in from developing drugs using ChatGPT

7. This applies to commerce too. They want to take a cut of both the discovery and the transaction when someone searches for a product using ChatGPT. This is already happening with Walmart, Etsy, Shopify deals (announced at DevDay)

All in all she is articulating this big vision where OpenAl kind of becomes the most important company in the world, and uses this apparent hugely valuable IP they have that everyone wants in order to strike a bunch of unorthodox commercial arrangements that allows them to spend hundreds of billions a year and still make sense as a company

He answered to both of those. On his communist comments:
“That was very much me f**king around the internet,” he told CNN. “I don’t want people to see me for who I was in my worst Internet comment – or even frankly who I was in my best Internet comment … I don’t think any of that is indicative of who I am today, really.”

Democracy is about all people not just those with enough money to buy results like Robert Mercer.
Mercer and his daughter Rebekah helped to obtain senior roles in the Trump campaign for Steve Bannon and Kellyanne Conway.[31] Rebekah worked with Conway on the Cruz Super-PAC Keep the Promise in the 2016 Republican primaries.[13] Mercer also financed a Super PAC, Make America Number One, which supported Trump's campaign.[31] Nick Patterson, a former colleague of Mercer's said in 2017 that Trump would not have been elected without Mercer's support.[17]

Robert Mercer is a global menace spreading hate and misinformation with his wealth.
Mercer was an activist in the campaign for the United Kingdom to end its membership of the European Union, also known as Brexit. Andy Wigmore, communications director of Leave.EU, said that Mercer donated the services of data analytics firm Cambridge Analytica to Nigel Farage, the head of the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP). The firm was able to advise Leave.EU through its ability to harvest data from people's Facebook profiles in order to target them with individualized persuasive messages to vote for Brexit.[37]

It has been reported that Cambridge Analytica has undisclosed links to Canadian digital firm AggregateIQ, which also played a pivotal role in Dominic Cummings' Vote Leave campaign, where he delivered an estimated one billion individually curated targeted adverts to voters in the lead up to the Brexit referendum, in contravention of established voting rules. Neither Vote Leave nor Leave.EU informed the UK electoral commission of the donation despite the fact that a law demands that all donations valued over £7,500 must be reported. In 2018, the (UK) Electoral Commission found the Vote Leave campaign guilty of breaking electoral law.[37]

This Robert Mercer is not a good person and should not have outsized influence on democracies the way he has.
Mercer has said that the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the landmark federal statute arising from the civil rights movement of the 1960s, was a major mistake. In 2017, David Magerman, a former Renaissance employee, alleged in a lawsuit that Mercer had said that African Americans were economically better off before the civil rights movement, that white racists no longer existed in the United States, and that the only racists remaining were black racists.[17]

I had to remind myself about who Robert Mercer is. From en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_... :
Mercer played a controversial role in the campaign for the United Kingdom to leave the European Union, led by Dominic Cummings, with £3.9 million being spent on his data analytics and machine learning company AggregateIQ. [5] He has also been a major funder of organizations supporting right-wing political causes in the United States, such as Breitbart News,[6] the now-defunct Cambridge Analytica,[7] and Donald Trump's 2016 campaign for president.[8] He is the principal benefactor of the Make America Number 1 super PAC.[9]

In November 2017, Mercer announced he would step down from Renaissance Technologies and sell his stake in Breitbart News to his daughters.[10] He was the majority owner of SCL Group, a self-described "global elections management agency",[11] before it was dissolved in 2018.[3] In 2021, Mercer was involved in possibly the largest tax settlement in U.S. history, as he, James Simons, and other executives at the hedge fund Renaissance Technologies were ordered to pay as much as $7 billion to the IRS in back taxes.

Would you support civilian complaint review boards with subpeona power to investigate police misconduct?

Progressive activists and civil liberty groups have been pushing for a law to allow for civilian complaint review boards with subpoena powers to investigate alleged police misconduct. The proposal has not gone far in the Statehouse, where it faces resistance from influential police unions. Murphy has stated support for the concept but has not used his political capital to get it done.

Tim Cook and Donald Trump are sitting side by side at a conference table. Tim Cook, looking like a jerk on the left of the image, is wearing a black suit, white shirt and blue tie with small white squares. He looks down with a serious and slightly frowning expression, keeping his hands on the table. In front of him is a nameplate with his name and that of the company Apple, as well as a glass of water and a microphone.

On the right of the image, Donald Trump, also wearing a dark suit with a white shirt and a blue, black and white striped tie, appears with his eyes half closed, his mouth half open in an "o", orange skin and a giant ego, as if he were speaking. He has his hands positioned in front of his body, and he also has a microphone and a nameplate that says "The President". In the background, part of an American flag is visible on the left, and the wall of the room has decorative white moldings.

The tarrifs have created a sharp decline in scheduled arrivals of shipping containers to LA next week followed by a relatively normal volume in the following week. These tarrifs are dumb and we're seeing a lot of recessionary indicators, but it's going to be a slow slide down if tariffs persist.
Screenshot of the Port of LA's Signal dashboard from April 29 showing a 35.91% lower volume scheduled for arrival in week 19 2025 compared to week 19 2024. There is also a 0.84% increase in week 20 2025 scheduled volume compared to week 20 2024.

Below 40% approval is a major indicator of unpopularity.
Chart: Trump’s overall approval rating is lower than it was only two months ago. The poll shows that 39 percent of adult Americans approve of the way Trump is handling his job, compared with 55 percent who disapprove, including 44 percent who disapprove strongly. In February, those numbers were 45 percent positive and 53 percent negative.

Note: Totals may not equal 100% because of rounding. “No opinion” was not provided as an option in February.

Trump is convinced that trade is bad and has been convinced of it for a long time as indicated in Bob Woodward's book 'FEAR' published in 2018.
Tweet by Bob Woodward @realBobWoodward:

FEAR, my first book on Trump published in 2018, showed Trump's obsession with tariffs and how his top economic adviser, Gary Cohn, a former president of Goldman Sachs repeatedly tried to prevent Trump and Navarro from tanking the U.S. economy.

FEAR page 137:

Cohn found he almost had to shout to be heard. "Look," he said, "the only time that our trade deficit goes down" were times like the financial crisis in 2008. "Our trade deficit goes down because our economy's contracting. If you want our trade deficit to go down, we can make that happen. Let's just blow up the economy!"

On the other hand, Cohn said, if they did it his way-no tariffs, no quotas, no protectionism, no trade wars-"if we do things right, our trade deficit's going to get bigger."

And when the trade deficit got bigger each month, Cohn went to Trump, who grew more and more agitated.

"Sir, I told you this was going to happen," Cohn said. "This is a good sign. It's not a bad sign."

"I went to parts of Pennsylvania," the president said, "that used to be big steel towns and now they're desolate towns and no one had a job and no one has work there."

"That may be true, sir," Cohn said. "But remember there were towns 100 years ago that made horse carriages and buggy whips. No one had a job either. They had to reinvent themselves. You go to states like Colorado, you've got 2.6 unemployment rate because they keep reinventing themselves."

Trump did not like, or buy, any of the arguments. "It has nothing to do with it," Trump said.
