Who's upset? I'm speaking frankly. Here's the difference. Humans use objects in combat and the weapon is a wildcard. Not so in animal combat. Hence animals don't escalate, their combat is not a crisis, and they need no deferral. I elaborate with pictures here: ericjacobus.com/roba/the-sto...

When I say humans aren't animals, and you ask, "Are you denying evolution?" it's like someone saying they're non-trinitarian and a Christian asking, "Are you denying the Bible?" I'm happy to discuss but I want to point out your limited terminology.

Left wing (and all) people should also avoid the Darwinian trap that states that humans are just animals. This is just as superstitious & irrational as anything else. It has an Eden, Fall (racists will say divergent evolution of the races happens here), and a Messiah (Caesar of Planet of the Apes).

As parents, "sending them out" may not always the best solution for our kids. Sometimes they want to stick around, or we should go with them. Maybe parents and kids should start businesses together. Be creative with your family, exit the exchange cycle, and stop the political escalation. Please.

All this is done through a complex mass media network that ensures a kind of reciprocal parity between the two sides. Naturally the parties' behaviors and beliefs mirror one another. We might call this an "endogamous bilateral restricted exchange" kinship system.

Democrats are also increasingly marrying only Democrats, who also raise their children in restrictive homes with specific media, education, & groups meant to enshrine liberal beliefs in the children. They also get burnt out on this. Once they're sent out, they are increasingly becoming Republicans.

Republicans increasingly only marry other Republicans. They raise their children in highly restrictive, politicized homes with politicized media and churches. Children get burnt out. Once they're "sent out" into the world, they are increasingly crossing the political aisle to become Democrats.

American politics is not about philosophy or values. It's all about kinship, and increasingly so today. Let me explain. In America, the two sides are trending toward what Levi-Strauss would have called a "restricted exchange" system. Here's what's happening, as I understand it...

I would say that both of them think they represent "the voice of the people." Rural low-class whites and the Urban lower class have very different priorities but both think they're oppressed by elites among the opposition party, and both are kind of correct.

I'm curious why she says that "terrorism" is worse than "murder." Why is a political statement (whether it is coupled with vandalism, homicide, or both) worse than a personal murder? Why is burning Teslas "vicious"? Vandalism, yes. But the right is anthropomorphizing vehicles.

Are there any reliable studies of comparative rates of stress, nightmares, seasonal depression, etc? I suspect that sleeping too much past dawn, and immediately jumping into checking emails and other notifications, generally increases stress levels.

In ancient society we slept when it got dark. In technological society we sleep when we get tired of watching screens = general exhaustion. Seems sleeping while it's dark pays dividends. I would also like to see studies about comparative rates of seasonal depression and nightmares.

Napier's statement recalls the Social Darwinists' claim that "savage" societies were less evolved than their own. We see similar statements today regarding inner-city gangs, riots and looting, none of which is evidence of anything "evolutionary." Can we stop this nonsense?
100
Eric Jacobus @ericjacobus.bsky.social · 23/02/2025
The standard interpretation is that human aggress evolved from primate aggression. And yet, our aggression has access to reciprocal, object-based aggression (ROBA), but animals have no such combat. Apes have no rock or stick wars. This is a human-only affair. Why hasn't anyone noticed this?
100
Eric Jacobus @ericjacobus.bsky.social · 23/02/2025
In Napier's "Roots of Mankind" the author claims that "In the progress towards the social evolution of education, student revolts are a grave hindrance;... young males... act as adult males do in all primate societies when they are so challenged - aggressively." Here again myth rears its ugly head.

Yes apes have a higher index. I'm curious of the evolutionary explanation as to why the human index is so low.

Seeking some #primatology or #zoology pros to help me understand this. Humans have a low intermembral index (long legs), even lower than New and Old World monkeys. Primates, by contrast, have a much higher index. Can anyone explain this disparity? (cit: Napier, Roots of Mankind, 1970)

I would think any agricultural god that forces conversion from matrilocal to patrilocal kinship and has a son as the first heir would fit the Zeus/Apollo dynamic. It seems to have swept across Aryan lands into Germany, Armenia, Northern India, etc.
