“Putting batteries in these trucks is the most obvious move, and they will surely save a ton of money on fuel. Big trucks with flat decks for large batteries, low daily mileage, parked overnight in the same location where they can be easily charged = no brainer.” electrek.co/2026/10/03/f...

Today made second half of tonight‘s dinner. About 60 mini ravioli filled with braised beef short rib. Pasta cooked in about 2 minutes and finished in a simple butter sauce. Recipe from Marc Vetri’s cookbook: The Pasta Book. Dinner was phenomenal. Want to make every recipe in this thing.

Today I made 60-70 francobolli (mini ravioli about 1.25” square) filled with a celery root puree for tomorrow’s dinner. There is definitely a learning curve working with fresh pasta but by the end, I was getting the hang of it.

Trump is obsessed with any power he can wield unilaterally (i.e., not have to get congressional approval). Makes him feel more like a king, which he l-l-l-loves. He will not hesitate to invoke it if he feels it'll help him. Sadly, there will be an army of sycophants saying it's legal/proper.

I’ve often wondered if the US will become a 21st century Cuba, where tourists come to see old, outdated car technology.

He still thinks he's running a real estate development company. His grasp of basic economics is severely limited. Can't wait for all the tell-all memoirs in a few years talking about how they tried to explain deficits to him with red and blue m&m's but could never quite break through.

Unpopular take: Starting to think the best thing that can happen to the Phillies is they lose these last few games, miss the playoffs, and don't sign Dombrowski to an extension this offseason. $300 million payroll that can't score and has a bullpen with 2 arms. (you've thought it too.)

Finally some decent hoods for Barbour jackets! Mixed reaction to the details. Love the pocket on the sleeve. But that string belt is the kind of thing that looks good in photos but becomes impractical in real life.

It seems like in the last few days, Rubio and others are saying the only way to ensure they won't have a nuclear weapon is regime change. That seems to be a slight change from the past when they couldn't articulate a concrete goal. Serious implications about how long this will last, tho.

Also, the "legal to work here, but not to live here" is a giant loophole in our legislation. I think it makes the public think certain groups have some kind of protection that they really don't have. Any chance there's a consensus to fix any of this?

Or, if people are just lying about their income, that should also get flagged when file their taxes the following April.
000
Eric Carbone @ericcarbone.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
In theory, if folks are being signed up without them knowing it so health insurance companies can pocket their subsidies, the IRS should be able to flag that when those folks don't include forms 1095-A or 8962 in their taxes and the IRS starts asking for the subsidies to be paid back.
100
Eric Carbone @ericcarbone.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
insurance, you have to pay back part or all of the subsidy (depending on your actual income for that calendar year). If your income was lower than claimed in the application, you get a credit on your taxes.
100
Eric Carbone @ericcarbone.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
And if you get an ACA subsidy, the exchange will send you a form 1095-A at the end of the year that you must include with your taxes (through form 8962) that breaks down what you paid and if you got a subsidy. If your final income is higher than the estimate you gave when you applied for
100
Eric Carbone @ericcarbone.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
We got our health insurance on the exchange for a few years before we just started renewing directly with IBX every year. When you apply on the exchange, you have to estimate your income for the coming year to determine your subsidy.

Okay, so this article gets through a little of the fraud alleged. But if it was just a matter of people lying about their income, that should get caught when those folks file their next tax return. www.cnbc.com/2026/09/22/t...
" The report defined improper or fraudulent enrollment as individuals misstating their income to gain access to free plans."
110
Eric Carbone @ericcarbone.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
You'd think this gets caught if people don't file their subsidy form with their taxes and the IRS asks for the subsidies back. But perhaps paperwork requirements are different when income levels are low enough to qualify for 100% subsidiaries. idk.

Speculation on my part but: If brokers are signing up very low income people for coverage, the premiums may be being paid 100% thru ACA subsidies and, because these people don't know they have coverage, the insurance companies are pocketing 100% of that. Brokers also may get a fee/enrollee?

By Trumpian logic, if they never investigate corruption, it goes to zero.
050
Eric Carbone @ericcarbone.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
But you're enrolled in a plan with a real health ins co, not the government. There are brokers who can help with the marketplace. I guess they could be signing up people without their consent. The article hints AI may be flagging this, but it's unclear.
050
Eric Carbone @ericcarbone.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
ACA is just a marketplace that asks for income info and then can set up a subsidy. You can claim any income, but you have to file a form with with the IRS for that year, and if your income differs from what you claimed, you may have to pay the subsidy back (or get more, if your income is lower).

Eric Carbone @ericcarbone.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
Just read the WaPo article and completely agree. What does "kick them off" even mean? People are enrolled in a plan with a private health insurance co (prob thru the end of the calendar year). Are they stopping the monthly subsidies? Are they cancelling the private plans mid-year?
