i think the issue with the question is that it implies that democratic discourse has completely eroded, which would make us no better then reactionaries. as opposed to structural changes which would allow dem discourse to actually work, our recourse becomes trite culture war jabs.

I spent years researching the intersection of blockchain and art, writing my masters thesis about conceptual art, contracts and the affordances of distributed systems in reimagining our socialities and modes of exchange. I then got very angry about it and stopped working on it.

The cumbersome part is setting up an account on a server you like. Otherwise it’s exactly like this but tends to skew to the nerdy/homebrew/I use Linux out of spite crowd

Mastodon has an app that’s like IG. I think the issue here is we’re still on centralized servers which despite what the company is saying are subject to all of the other issues we’re having elsewhere
