A bright and whimsical painting of a blue-toned kitchen, in which various baby animals in diapers are having a jam session. A pig is playing ukulele, a chick is playing triangle with a fork, a kitty is on the horn, a puppy is banging a pot, and a mouse, frog, snake and fly are dancing and vibing along as rainbow colored confetti and “noise lines” erupt from the musical instruments.

A night-time image in tones of purple with highlights of gold and cream. Cats are gathered around a cauldron in a backyard. The tabby in the center is stirring the steaming liquid with a long bone. A jersey-spotted cat in overalls plays a fiddle, a white cat in a dress sways rhythmically to the music, and a plain cat in the background peeks over the fence and seems happy and entranced by the goings-on. Fireflies and a moth dance in the air and a mysterious pair of eyes shines out of a hole in a tree.

A black and white pen-and-ink drawing of a mama anteater feeding a bowl of ants to twin baby anteaters who are seated in a double-wide high chair, with a speech bubble that says “Open Wide!” One of the baby anteaters is busy chasing ants across the tray with its tongue, the other has their mouth open to accept the offered ant spoon, and one ant is hastily scurrying down the chair leg and away from the anteaters.

A black and white pen-and-ink drawing of a crow wrapped in a blanket, nestled in an armchair with a book and a mug of a steaming drink in front of a warm fire on a winter’s night. A frame around the image creates an extra sense of cozy, miniature charm, and the overall vibe is one of handmade whimsy and nostalgia.

Yeah, I can see that. It’s been so hard to break the habit of opening those and doom scrolling, especially when so much doom keeps happening. 😖 But I don’t feel good about sharing art in those places anymore so there’s less and less of a point in giving them my attention.

I really need to train myself to make Bluesky my go to and wean myself off the cursed Meta apps. Have any of you dumped Meta altogether?

Actually HC gets half of that, so the author gets $1250.

This is my newest setup! It’s going to be a shrimp tank; I have red rilis coming from a local breeder soon. Excited to see this tank grow out/fill in!

My obsession, which was reignited early this year after many years away from the hobby, and which has been keeping me sane, is nano freshwater aquariums. This is my new little tank, which will soon be a shrimp home.

Every time I open Bluesky I see lots and lots of cats. Which is GREAT! This is my boy, Sully. But…..

I honestly thought our industry would be one of the few bastions that would refuse to become a part of this soulless machine. I was wrong.

Erica Sirotich @ericasirotich.bsky.social · 19/11/2024

Like, who is really going to want to accept $1250 so a robot can create books in their style? And put them out of work? It’s an insult to even be asked.

Erica Sirotich @ericasirotich.bsky.social · 19/11/2024

Really. I’m so disheartened. What are we going to do? Are all publishers going to head this way? Could we mount enough resistance to make them rethink?

Hi Brian! I’d love to be considered. I’ve created books with Abrams, Dial, Harper & others and frequently contribute to Highlights. Here are a few samples that I think match the look you’re going for. Thank you!!

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, papas & grandpas out there! This is a spread from a little board book I illustrated, LET’S SAY HELLO (HarperFestival), which shares twelve ways to say hello from around the world. This one was inspired by my visits to Japan. 🤗 #kidlit #konnichiwa #kidlitmegafeed

A little peek inside my latest board book, MAIL DUCK HELPS A FRIEND (Abrams)! There are lots of flaps to lift & even more things to find as Mail Duck & friends collect things that will help their friend Mail Quail feel better. This was named a Best Kids Book of 2023 by Good Housekeeping. 🥰 #kidlit
