Developing a macroecology for human‐altered ecosystems
Although anthropogenically-induced ecological disruptions are fundamentally important in defining ecosystem properties, they are largely overlooked by macroecological theory. Anthropogenic disruption...

in "General laws of biodiversity: Climatic niches predict plant range size and ecological dominance globally", we provide key insights into species’ vulnerability to environmental change and the processes that structure biodiversity at global scales. www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

General laws of biodiversity: Climatic niches predict plant range size and ecological dominance globally | PNAS
A longstanding question in ecology asks whether or not species that achieve large geographic ranges also have large climatic niche breadths. Using ...

We are glad to share our recent article pulbished in @pnas.org, where we we demonstrate that plant species that occupy larger geographic ranges tend to have broader climatic niches and are more likely to achieve high local abundances.

Hybrid theory offers new way to model disturbed complex systems
Multi-scale complex systems are ubiquitous and also notoriously difficult to model. In disturbed systems, conventional bottom-up or top-down approaches can’t capture the interactions between the...

New article out today in PNAS: "Dynamical theory of complex systems with two-way micro–macro causation" with John Harte, Micah Brush, and a talented undergrad, Pranav Muralikrishnan. www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...
