So Matz is saying you can make Campfire (a Rails app) 5 times faster and use a twelvth of the memory by using github.com/rubys/roundh... + github.com/matz/spinel

So part of the reason for Spinel (AOT compiler from Ruby to C) is lower memory usage, because RAM got expensive, and of course performance #EuRuKo

Did you run with YJIT? YJIT doesn't compile singleton methods of non-Module/Class objects. I was also surprised by the extra method call costing something like 10-20ns extra without YJIT (10 from the blog post, 20 from my local run on 3.4.1). Meanwhile on TruffleRuby all 3 optimize away:
