Atlas is my other POV, and he does have answers but hides them for a reason. The main anchor would have to be the image of Jupiter's storm clouds and colorful bands, which is an image I return to often.

The anchor is Eryx, the main character, but he's unintentionally unreliable, so I'm working to identify other smaller "anchors." Phrasing it that way is very smart!

The biggest note right now that I'm working on is to provide the reader something "concrete," which I understand, given that there's a lot of mystery surrounding the opening chapters. However, it's tricky to provide enough so readers aren't confused but without spoiling some of the bigger twists.

None of the readers instructed me how to write the scenes, so I still have to figure out the best way to craft the chapters and plot, but overall, I find myself agreeing with their criticisms and working to improve the manuscript based off those concerns.

Given that my beta readers went through the entire manuscript, I've been going through the chapters in chronological order while mindful of their notes for future chapters. It's helping to start laying the groundwork for those edits before reaching those chapters.

Yes, one of my readers happens to be an editor as well, but I will likely work with an additional one after completing self-edits and getting a final view from the beta reader and editor. I have queried the book before, and it did get a few nibbles from agents. I hope this process will improve it. 😃

Right now, I'm finishing up my general notes compiling all the feedback while slowly going through each chapter on a printed version. Having a physical copy of the manuscript helps me edit, and moving back to the computer screen is easier later.

I generally felt confident, but after 8 beta readers/editors, I definitely got a better consensus, and with only a few outliers, their reports were generally consistent about what needed improvement with the pacing.

I asked because there are multiple moving parts, and I've been writing the story for a while. Every class i took in my master's program had a week where our professors reminded us that it's easy to miss flaws when you're too close to the writing. The distance helped massively.

Mostly pacing dips. In early drafts, before I figured out that this was more dystopian, I called Moon Children a literary sci-fi because those slow moments are integral. But it's definitely a dystopian SFF story.
