Ale×ey @equalparallel.bsky.social · 21/12/2025We Computers: A Ghazal Novel by Hamid Ismailov was one of the most interesting reads around the topic of AI for me this year. Partly because it's built around questions of authorship not cheapened by the usual sensationalism and commercial religion, but around practicing poetry. 110
Ale×ey @equalparallel.bsky.social · 15/12/2025Seen so many Jia Zhangke scenes. This one in Xi'An. 000
Ale×ey @equalparallel.bsky.social · 15/12/2025It doesn't take long in the country outside the mall districts, just past the wrong turn in a big underpass, to realize that Jia Pingwa and Jia Zhankge are neorealists, while China of Tooze is a fascinating mirage, a spirit of excel sheets, under whose shadow lives pass quietly. 110
Ale×ey @equalparallel.bsky.social · 08/12/2025Sichuan food is fine, but it turns out Yunnan cuisine is the best. Good enough to be represented in other provinces even. From the Yunnan Kitchen restaurant in Chongqing: fried tofu puffs with signature Danshan style dry dip, steamed omelet with mushrooms and crazy potato salad. 210
Ale×ey @equalparallel.bsky.social · 11/11/2025Found on Reddit. Could have been about Kant not just Göttingen. 110
Ale×ey @equalparallel.bsky.social · 11/11/2025Haven't started reading it properly but shocked once again by incredible brevity of Brassier's writing in the introduction. 020
Ale×ey @equalparallel.bsky.social · 11/08/2025Nice diagram by Rescher from his book on Philosophical Dialectic 110
Ale×ey @equalparallel.bsky.social · 17/06/2025Wrote 4k words on faith in a disenchanted world. On what faith means to me in the impossibility of theism. Where I'd go when there is nowhere left to turn. Don't know if this is philosophy exactly. Just thinking out loud about things I've never really thought about. equalparallel.com/void-cloud-l... 030
Ale×ey @equalparallel.bsky.social · 16/06/2025This is quite crucial: the prompt in the shell signified performance of transformation of one model into another, of encoding the anthropic into machine, but increasingly means ideation within machinic semiotic boundaries. Thinking within the limits of CLI syntax and semantics. 000
Ale×ey @equalparallel.bsky.social · 16/06/2025Interesting, if perhaps excessively optimistic text. Can't quite tecall much writing in the area of philosophy of CLI! Maybe just adjacent in Neal Stephenson's "In the beginning was the command line". echo.orpheusinstituut.be/article/prom... 100
Ale×ey @equalparallel.bsky.social · 11/06/2025Gellner kind of goes to town on the now classic libidinal economy and belonging approach to this topic, but following the tradition of being a good liberal it's mostly cherry picking. I'm curious if someone already explored the violent affect side of things. 130
Ale×ey @equalparallel.bsky.social · 11/06/2025Did anyone write about fascism in this key more extensively? On fascism as "the cult of violent affect"? Except Theweleit that is and various literature exploring sadism, transgression and politics aesthetically. Quote from Gellner: 5298
Ale×ey @equalparallel.bsky.social · 03/06/2025Turns out there's a device like that already! It's called Time Timer Watch and its designed for ADHD. Main feature being a visually representative timer with a stark red clock face. And the timer can be set to repeat with a fairly noticeable vibration alarm. 110
Ale×ey @equalparallel.bsky.social · 01/05/2025Actually pretty timely to show it now cause created a subculture, an aesthetic of masculinity and in today's crisis of it, it's a good reminder of how performative the whole thing is. 000
Ale×ey @equalparallel.bsky.social · 17/04/2025Sad to see further confirmation of the thesis "where there's one sign of brainrot, there surely is another". 010
Ale×ey @equalparallel.bsky.social · 17/04/2025Good time to repost this intro from Shahram Khosravi's book with Theo Angelopoulos poem interpreting Homer's Odyssey 010
Ale×ey @equalparallel.bsky.social · 30/03/2025Most importantly G sees this as a kind of liberal vision of atomistic facts (alienated from referenced) and recognises it to be much less socially cohesive, a world in which social values are unmoored: 010
Ale×ey @equalparallel.bsky.social · 30/03/2025Today I've learned that Ernest Gellner was something of a Sellarsian without knowing it: manifest and scientific images to him are multi strand and single strand social organisations, the latter a unified view of atomistic facts with no room for privileged or sacred: 130
Ale×ey @equalparallel.bsky.social · 25/03/2025Imho the extent of suffering from the overall writing style per insightful sentence in Ernest Gellner's work is severely underrated. Each brilliant summary or idea is hidden in this absolutely obscene Oxbridge prose spiced with military and navy metaphors. On Hayek and Veblen: 110
Ale×ey @equalparallel.bsky.social · 25/03/2025So basically the best thing I've eaten in Rome was this - a Tramezzini Carbonara in La Casina Del Caffe. Turns out it's incredibly easy to make at home but really needs plenty of fresh black pepper and eggs can be improved if frying them the Chinese way (semiwet whipped omelette mixed with water). 030
Ale×ey @equalparallel.bsky.social · 08/03/2025Rus version includes stuff like "Pliny the Younger's proposition to release most deserving slaves to improve the demographic situation was like if the minister of contemporary France would give citizenship to the migrant workers". I wonder if the original French one has it. 010
Ale×ey @equalparallel.bsky.social · 08/03/2025Reading A History of Private Life volume 1 (gen ed Ariès and Duby) and finding out significant differences between Eng and Rus translations: 120
Ale×ey @equalparallel.bsky.social · 24/02/2025Part of the rather intense green salon of Galleria Palazzo Doria-Pamphili. 010
Ale×ey @equalparallel.bsky.social · 24/02/2025Saw one of the 127 copies of one of my favourite paintings today - Brueghel's Winter Landscape with a Bird Trap. Certainly worth a whole industry that once existed around it. 130
Ale×ey @equalparallel.bsky.social · 21/01/2025Americans now finally catching up to the rest of the world on the historical timeline. 110
Ale×ey @equalparallel.bsky.social · 12/08/2023This opening paragraph by Brassier from an introductory essay on Badiou is so good, it may awaken me from slumber. 000
Ale×ey @equalparallel.bsky.social · 05/07/2023I wrote a few words under the title A Ladder to Nowhere: on Beauty as the Experience of Truth, attempting to grapple with an idea of beauty as a guiding criteria for human development. Aesthetically, ethically, personally, collectively. equalparallel.com/wp/2023/05/19/a-l… 000
