They think I have a toddler and a dog. Grew up with dogs, love dogs, haven’t owned one in my adult lifetime. Oh, and the toddler is a teenager. Dunno how they got that wrong since we first bought stuff for the grandkid well over a decade ago.

Sadly and far too often, yes. I dated 2 people this happened to. One of them was lucky enough to find a supportive community and she became a social worker who worked for a group supporting ex-foster kids like her.

Endlessly jealous that you got to see Pterry in person. We had some good folks too. Roger Ebert was a cranky asshole to staff before his signing; as a big fan, I was SO disappointed. He was fine during and afterward apologized, saying he was exhausted due to coming off a really bad cold.

Our CRC was a former Buddhist monk, usually totally chill, and even she got annoyed with his shit. Compare that to Anne Rice, who was amazing and generous and all about the fans at her signings. She also was smart enough to treat booksellers well. All she wanted was a 6-pk of Tab. 3/3
