Summer in Mumbai was brutal and endless. The monsoon's poster child was running out of water. In a dispatch for @equatormag.bsky.social, I wrote about living with extreme heat in a broken city and limits to resilience. With🔥 images by @ishantankha.bsky.social www.equator.org/articles/cit...

🥵💀🥵🔥 The climate necropolitics of India's Modi and Adani government: This paper estimates heatwave excess deaths across India, due to lack of government data. 30'000 heat deaths due to a 5 day heat wave is roughly 23% above the national average, and it's an underestimate. A HUGE mass death event.

Watching BBC News and they just did 5 minutes with a doctor about how this heatwave is life threatening and the interviewer closed it with "well, it's just an opportunity to have ice cream for breakfast!!". Amazing clip of how the BBC seems just blissfully unaware of what is happening

NEW: Car bonnets are becoming a half-centimetre higher every year, driving road safety fears. This #carspreading trend where supersized SUVs crowd out space in towns and cities is also leading to cars that are more dangerous in a crash. 🧵

Some interesting shifts in language in the CCC's Seventh Carbon Budget report, compared to the Sixth. - the emphasis on UK "leadership" has almost gone ⬇️ - references to "justice/fairness" have plummeted by 85% ⬇️⬇️⬇️ - references to "households" have skyrocketed by 400% ⬆️⬆️⬆️ A short 🧵

Today's big idea (not mine): There's a big queue for renewables projects to connect to the grid. How to prioritise? How about prioritising those projects where commercial developers offer local communities an ownership share in the project? www.regen.co.uk/is-the-local...
