It would be nice if the Dem's learned from their mistakes. The GOP doesn't need to attack and divide the Dems. The Dems do it to themselves. If the Dems keep it up, we'll have a Trump Dynasty on our hands.

I haven't seen her statements on this, but I have seen a whole lot of others. Some agree with you and aparently Pelosi, and many agree with me. Schumer is just as savvy as Pelosi is.

What on earth do you all expect him to do? He doesn't have a majority. If he fillibustered the spending bill, Trump/DOGE would have used that as an excuse to defund and close more agencies. This is ridiculous.

The schadenfreude stories are unique. So I get the coverage there. But the rest of it is off-putting.

The media blitz & outsized police response to the United Healthcare CEO assassination is nagging at me. Other victims don't get this level of attention or police response. What makes this guy's life more valuable than theirs?

Anyone want to do a #booksky #bookclub? I’m half way through How to Stop Time (Matt Haig) and then moving on to Wolf Hall (Simon Slater). Want to read with me? ❤️📚

Why Does No One Understand the Real Reason Trump Won?

It wasn’t the economy. It wasn’t inflation, or anything else. It was how people perceive those things, which points to one overpowering answer.

I loved this book. I used to be a "serious" reader. If it wasn't in squint-worthy small print and published by Penguin Classics, I wasn't interested. This book reminded me how fun reading could be.

Agreed. (Loved the Spaghetti poem, and the eaten by a boa constrictor one!). But this is the one I read nonstop when I was a kid. It lead to my frist childhood epiphany: The kid is a selfish jerk and I should try not act like him.

I tried to read that once but wasn't ready for it. That book is one dark, sick puppy. It's been sitting in my "to read" pile for a while now. I know it's great. I know I need to read it. I'll do it ... one day.

Octavia Butler being a time traveler or seer, will forever be a hill I'm willing to die on, because there's just no way. Parable of The Sower was published in 1993. Look at this date. #BlackBookSky #BookSky

This is too funny. That's the one I picked up, read for an hour, said "NOPE!" and promptly moved on to a random whodunnit. I haven't cracked another McCarthy novel since.

It never took precedence. He did both. Biden's focus on equity wasn't for the heartland. His work on student loans, health care, etc. largely benefitted urban areas. His infrastructure and environmental policies lifted us all up. It doesn't have to be a zero sum game.

EnviroDisaster @envirodisaster.bsky.social · 21/11/2024

There's some truth to that, but I think lifestyle choice isn't a fair characterization. The decline forces the choice, even for those that would prefer to stay. I think we can stop the decline (urban & rural) through smart investments in infrastructure, a strong FTC, and good trade policy.

They deserve to have quality of life. They shouldn't have to watch their land be destroyed by industrial and agricultural pollution, or governmental incompetence/neglect. The same can and should be said for each of us. Rural lives don't matter any more or less than my own. We're all just people.

200

EnviroDisaster @envirodisaster.bsky.social · 21/11/2024

I live in a City. I work with my City. I push for improvements and funding for my City. But my City has people that get paid to do that. Professionals who know how to apply for federal funding and private grants. Rural areas don't have that capability or capacity. They need help.

EnviroDisaster @envirodisaster.bsky.social · 21/11/2024

Cities get a lot of assistance. They have well-formed governments, city-level departments of health, building divisions, & streets. Their water is filtered by a utility. Their sewage disappears down pipes (and doesn't seep into their drinking water wells) ...

310

EnviroDisaster @envirodisaster.bsky.social · 20/11/2024

Nope. They are the words of someone (me) who does environmental work in both rural and urban areas. I meet and work with people from all sorts of backgrounds. The decline of U.S. manufacturing coupled with industrialized agriculture has eroded the health & wealth of rural communities.
