Corporations, not individuals, are largely responsible for climate change, and EPA’s Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program (GHGRP) data show the worst culprits. Yet the EPA has proposed to eliminate the program. Learn more in EDGI’s latest report: envirodatagov.org/publication/...

This #EarthDay we’re grateful for our volunteers who help us track impacts to environmental data and governance under this administration. They’ve been especially busy monitoring impacts to the EPA, which was formed in part as a response to the original Earth Day in 1970.

“It is hard to say there’s nothing we can do about [climate change] when the data show otherwise. It is hard to convince people of a lie when there is data that shows the truth. And the Trump administration knows this.” Op-ed by EDGI’s @gretchengehrke.bsky.social: thehill.com/opinion/ener...

The GHGRP provides the most robust national dataset on GHG emissions available. Among many uses, it helps identify top GHG emitters. EPA’s proposed amendments would remove reporting for 46/47 industries. EDGI opposes these amendments in our public comment: envirodatagov.org/wp-content/u...

Under the Toxic Substances Control Act, new chemicals w/approved "Low-Volume Exemptions" have little to no EPA reporting requirements. The swift approval of LVEs touted in #99 (⬇️) is actually bad for public health & environment as these chemicals aren’t rigorously reviewed for risks to either.
Item #99 highlighted from EPA's Aug 7 press release: "Completed risk assessments for 106 Low Volume Exemptions (LVEs) in just two months, an increase from an average of 15 per month to 53 per month."

The PFAS testing in item #67 (⬇️) was actually announced back in July 2024: www.epa.gov/newsreleases....
Item #67 highlighted from EPA's Aug 7 press release: "Completed joint EPA-U.S. Army sampling of private drinking water wells for PFAS near McAlester Army Ammunition Plant in Oklahoma."

The $$ celebrated in item #28 (⬇️) is from the 2022 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. The amounts allocated in 2024 and 2025 appear to be identical (compare 2024, www.epa.gov/system/files..., with 2025, www.epa.gov/system/files...).
Item #28 highlighted from EPA's Aug 7 press release: "Released $945 million to reduce exposure to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in drinking water."

Environmental Data & Governance Initiative @envirodgi.bsky.social · 08/08/2025
Item #20 (⬇️) is being claimed as a “pro-environmental action” by EPA’s press office, yet it’s actually a proposal related to “forever chemicals” (PFAS) that would delay some standards, roll back others, and provide less protection for people’s drinking water.
Item #20 highlighted from EPA's Aug 7 press release: "Announced intent to extend compliance deadlines for PFOA and PFOS National Primary Drinking Water Regulation, establish a federal exemption framework, and initiate enhanced outreach to water systems, especially in rural and small communities, through EPA’s new PFAS OUTreach Initiative (PFAS OUT)."

The Clean Air Act has driven 📉s in some pollutants, but public health risks from dozens more have 📈 since Trump’s 1st admin. (Polluters that pose the biggest threats to public health are often in marginalized communities. Stay tuned for our blog looking at air toxics at the community level.) 🧵2/3

3/4 EPA says it regulates at least 550 data centers across the US. As with Musk's "Colossus" (which doesn't even have a permit to pollute), the neighborhoods surrounding these are disproportionately communities of color.

⚠️ EDGI has confirmed that the once publicly searchable EPA Staff Directory has been removed. The page previously included the names of Trump appointees & was removed 1 day after reporters asked the EPA to confirm the positions of those listed as “political appointee.” web.archive.org/web/diff/202...
