A fly getting some screen time this afternoon.

A slender black fly getting some afternoon screen (door) time. Its abdomen and thorax make me think of an ant. The abdomen is black with faint gray bands. The head and thorax appear faintly brown or red. Its wings are predominantly black with some patches that are either clear or just reflecting the diffused sunlight. The different shades of black remind me of my wardrobe after time and many washes.

Last night's screen visitors. Another soldier beetle. Also an alate ant. May/Junebugs in abundance but not pictured. Now to solve why my phone makes the insects on the screen blurry. It seems to love focusing on the screen.

A slender cantharid/soldier beetle. It has black elytra, with a line of orange where the two wing covers meet. Pronotum is orange, head appears black. Its on a screen. The beetle is slightly blurry.

I didn't have the mana to take a better picture of this possible soldier beetle, cantharid. Tonight's visitor. At ease, little guy, I'm going to bed.

A skinny beetle with somewhat long legs, an orange pronotum, brownish elytra. It is on a screen. The picture is blurry, the camera as interested in the screen as the beetle is.

I guess the insect picture theme this year for me is insects on my screens. Here's today's visitors.

A long, skinny brown beetle, hanging out on a screen. It's an elaterid of some sort, its head pointing down towards 4 o'clock and its body aligned to follow suit. Friend, I don't have any money in my budget to buy your clicks, so you can't come in.

A deep brown chonky scarab, a May/Junebug, with reddish brown legs and a fuzzy blonde vest, hanging out on my screen. Its right front leg is reaching through the screen, tarsi curving its tiny claw back as though beckoning those inside to come closer. You can't come in, beetle friend. There's a monster with knives on its hands here that would cronch you up.

One of my faves. I once got lost in the wilderness pre cell phones and followed one of these on a whim and it led me back close to camp.

A red spotted purple butterfly, Limenitis arthemis, resting on a sidewalk with its wings outstretched. From the top view it is a predominantly black colored butterfly. It's forewings have 2 rows of white spots on the trailing margin, it's hind wings have a lightish blue color on the trailing edges, with a black band interrupting the blue.

I think it's a Mordellid. I remembered the family name started with an M. But I started my search to jog my memory on a whim with "what beetle has a pointy butt?" Google AI said earwig. Google Lens said this image was a cockroach. Sigh.

Encountered this little dude trucking across the hiking path.

An orange caterpillar, orange with horizontal black stripes, black spines, and black head, thorax, and hind end, on some patchy grass and dirt ground viewed from above. It's moving through a few blades of grass. A Baltimore checkerspot caterpillar, Euphydryas phaeton.

Daughter and I carefully stepped over the moth meeting to make sure we didn't interrupt.

A number of little white-striped black moths gathering on the ground to gossip or share news. Or if you prefer there's probably some yummy minerals here they all like.

On a hike today with my daughter, I was the Snow White of insects and a soldier beetle and weevil paid me a visit while we rested on our sittin' stump, as well as a couple little wasps too fast to get pics.

A soldier beetle with orange head and pronotum and black elytra on a human hand. It's eyes and mouthparts make it look like it's surprised or wants to say something.

Daughter and I refer to this as the Elf King in the Stone. He's not looking happy. Nearby erosion has split a large stone people used to stand on to look out from the Bluff. Last time I visited was not split and tilting.

A stone outcropping that erosion has left looking like a stern humanoid face.
