Today’s garden update: all three kinds of asters are blooming, the bees are enthusiastic about them, and I picked another 11 tomatillos (no hard frost here yet).

A knitting update: here’s a progress photo of my current large project, a shallow triangle shawl using one skein of variegated handspun and two solid colors of millspun from the Junction Fiber Mill.
Garter stitch striped shawl in grey, orange, and variegated red/brown/blue yarns.

I did some printing this afternoon, for the first time in too long: test prints of my new tiger swallowtail block! #Art #SciArt #EntingPrints
Woodcut print of a tiger swallowtail in black ink on white paper. There’s a layer of yellow tissue paper between the butterfly and the white paper, applied via the chine-collé technique. Woodcut print of the same block but printed on a messy layer of yellow ink on white cardstock. Plain print of the same woodcut on white paper, with the block itself above the printed image.

Today’s garden update: the tomatillos are producing extremely well, plus a nasturtium and a red coneflower.
Medium-large bowl mostly full of freshly picked tomatillos of varying sizes. Bright red coneflower fully open but not much taller than the grass and its leaves. Vivid orange nasturtium flower surrounded by its leaves and miscellaneous other greenery.

Today’s garden update, from shortly before it started raining steadily: one more daylily flower, on one of my very favorite varieties — I thought they were already done for the season until I saw this one on my way home from a bird walk!
Close-ish photo of a daylily flower from pretty close to directly in front of it, showing off the dark red petals, pale stripes down the middles of the petals (more strongly on some), yellow throat, and bright yellow pollen.

This week has been busy, but I carved out some time (pun intended) to play with some new colors for my book-stack linocut. Still not quite what I’d envisioned but definitely fun.
Linocut print on white paper, depicting a stack of books in a pink/yellow/green/blue gradient with black outlines.

Some recent garden news: I have a blooming nasturtium, the liatris is continuing to be cheerfully purple, and I’ve picked the first few lemon drop peppers.
Bright orange nasturtium flower in the sun. Liatris plant with several flower clusters blooming and a few past peak. Four small, yellow chile peppers in my hand.

Got my shop updated with some herons and sparrows! (Note that both of these blocks, like most of the one-color prints, are also available as choose-your-ink-color (within reason) custom prints.) ko-fi.com/s/711de954a1 ko-fi.com/s/8f69848b6d

Today’s garden update: the raspberries and beans and chard are still going, and the grapes are starting to ripen!

The grasshopper-and-yarrow prints are done now! There are a dozen of them, and I’ll add them to the shop next week, after they’re dry. (This is a reduction print—I carved away the flowers before printing the grasshoppers—so there won’t be more of them.)
Small woodcut print on black paper, yarrow flowers in pink with a grasshopper in brown. There are plastic tabs sticking up from the back of the paper, and there’s part of a corkboard of inspiring art in the background.

Good morning, pocket friends! I have opened a ko-fi shop with some of my woodcut and linocut prints — please take a look! ko-fi.com/enting_print... (The grasshopper-and-yarrow print is a work in progress.)
Three small woodcut prints, two on white paper and one on black paper. From left to right, they depict a columbine, an orchid, and a grasshopper on a yarrow flower cluster. Linocut print on white paper, on a pine table. The print depicts a stack of books, in a pink/purple/blue bi pride gradient.

A few photos from yesterday’s adventures
Blue sky with fluffy white clouds, over several rows of hills and mountains, with the tops of festival tents along the bottom of the image. Birch bark on a forest floor, with pretty clean shadows of fern fronds. Red baneberry in fruit, with various ferns and plants around it. Wood frog hiding under some fern fronds.

I did some printing last night — these are two test prints of a block that needs some cleanup, but I’m pleased overall. Note that the paper here is ~4x4.5” (roughly 10x11.5 cm).
Woodcut print in pink ink on heavy black paper. The image is a cluster of yarrow flowers with a grasshopper sitting on a few of them. Same woodcut but printed on purple mulberry paper.

One of the flowers I picked last weekend — these fancy zinnias are new this year, and I really like them.

I went out to pick flowers on Sunday morning, and although the goldfinches refused to stay put for photos, the butterflies were more cooperative.
Part of a field of flowers planted for pick-your-own cutting, mostly scabiosa in this frame but with a stray sunflower toward the back. There’s an orange butterfly (likely a viceroy) on one of the white scabiosa flowers.

A garden update from yesterday: the first of the blackberries, plus a coneflower, a lily, and my crocosmia in bloom.
Three ripe blackberries in a cupped hand. Red coneflower with an insect (wasp or fly?) on two of its petals. Pale pink lily with dark speckles, surrounded by lush greenery (some of which belongs to raspberry canes). One flower stalk of a crocosmia, with a few of its bright red flowers open and the rest still buds.

Light harvest today because it was hot out, but I got some blueberries! (I think the birds have eaten most of them.) Oh, and a gooseberry.
Blue bowl containing mixed berries—red and black raspberries, blueberries, andres and pink currants—plus a couple of snap beans and a few snap peas.

Today’s harvest came with bonus wood thrush song! 😍 I did not harvest the daylily (or any daylily buds), but I’m pleased to see this one’s blooming now.
Blue bowl maybe half full of mixed berries (mostly raspberries, a couple of currants) and a few beans and peas. Yellow daylily with ruffled edges on its petals.

I finally finished this (modified) Stripe Study shawl that I started last year! It was in time out while I knit 5.5 other shawls because I needed to blend the fiber to spin the yarn to finish it (it’s all handspun).
Closeup of the short end of an asymmetrical triangle shawl, showing all the stripes of dark purple and a gradient of orange to pink. View of the entire shawl on recently mown grass.

Today’s garden update: more berries and peas, some daylilies, and the first yucca flower stalk since I planted it several years ago (!)

Today’s harvest — the tiny strawberries continue to provide disproportionately large amounts of joy.
Small bowl with a mix of black raspberries, red raspberries, snow peas, snap peas, and one tiny strawberry that’s smaller than some of the red raspberries.

It’s still hot out today despite the extreme heat warning expiring, but the garden seems happy enough.
Steel bowl holding maybe a cup of mixed berries (black raspberries, red raspberries, currants, two tiny strawberries, and a blueberry) and a few each of snow peas and snap peas. Rose mallow in bloom: purplish pink flowers on a mallow-family plant that’s smaller than a hollyhock. Close-ish view of a winterberry branch with tons of tiny white flowers.

After I recovered from picking berries during an extreme heat warning, I did some more carving on my current woodcut and also made a test print. It still needs some work, but I’m pleased!
Maple woodcut block on a work surface with some debris and carving tools. The woodcut depicts a song sparrow perched in a crabapple tree. Print of the woodcut on rice paper in brown ink.

So, yes, it’s the @romancingthevote.com auction that’s gotten me back on this app, but other excitement around here includes the start of raspberry season—this is today’s harvest.
Steel bowl with straight sides, holding maybe 1.5 cups of mixed red raspberries, black raspberries, red currants, and snow peas.

Small good things: spring is progressing in the woods around here.
White hepatica flowers surrounded by leaf litter and twigs. Spring beauties blooming in front of a mossy rock, with young aster leaves out of focus at the bottom of the frame. Purple hepatica flowers in front of some reddish rocks, with mystery green leaves that might be some kind of plantain (not the banana-like ones).

Phoebe really wanted the comfy chair to herself again. (I ceded it because it’s almost bedtime.)
Brown tabby on the back of an armchair, partially lit by an adjustable lamp that’s pointed toward the wall behind her. She’s looking over her shoulder, toward the lightbulb and at an angle to the camera, and the difference between the bright light on her back and the darkness around her chest and paws is pretty dramatic; slightly more than half her face is lit, and the other half is in shadow. (The vertical lamp support is hidden by her body.)

Some indoor flowers today
Pink hyacinth with nearly all of its flowers open. Each petal has a dark pink center and paler sides. Orchid (phalaenopsis) flower stalk with three open flowers and one large bud. Each flower is mostly pink with yellow and greenish accents. Other houseplant leaves and household miscellany are out of focus in the background.

Candlelight, a purring cat, and knitting are definitely helping my evening.
Brown tabby sitting slightly higher than the camera, being scritched by her human. The scene is lit by a couple of candles out of frame on the right; the background includes a snake plant, its shadow, and a framed art print (not by me) of a snoozing cat on a squashy armchair.

Outside is snowy and disconcertingly not cold (cold front arriving tomorrow), but the indoor flowers are doing pretty well.
Stripey pink orchid with one open flower facing the camera and one facing away. There are other houseplants in the background. Pink hyacinth with a few flowers open but most of the inflorescence still hidden. Each petal has pale stripes along the sides.

I’m glad I saved this dogwood twig; it’s clearly still a good cat toy.
