probably just paul @enpaul.net · 13/07/2026Not bad for the first bike ride longer than 10min in almost a year 000
probably just paul @enpaul.net · 11/06/2026Less than twenty minutes to High Street/ Brooklyn Bridge and here we are! Just a quick walk away from the office now 000
probably just paul @enpaul.net · 11/06/2026And now NYC! Gonna skip the beauty of the Moynihan train hall today and instead take the LIRR concourse directly to the subway. Either the A or the E will get me where I'm going, but the A (express) is faster 100
probably just paul @enpaul.net · 11/06/2026I know it's so uncool, but I always like looking at the progress on the new portal bridge because it reminds me that this country can actually build things and solve problems when we decide to give a shit 100
probably just paul @enpaul.net · 11/06/2026We're running ahead of schedule! A little over an hour since departing philly we're now through Newark! Next up is a very long tunnel and then Penn 100
probably just paul @enpaul.net · 11/06/2026And now we chill! Gonna get some work done and start caffinating for the day ahead 100
probably just paul @enpaul.net · 11/06/2026But once it starts boarding is very quick! Pro tip: skip the escalator and take the stairs (if you can). You can probably walk faster than the escalator and seating is first come first serve 100
probably just paul @enpaul.net · 11/06/2026Now for the best part of the trip (/s): waiting in line for the Amtrak for twenty minutes. Amtrak doesn't let you wait on the platform like you do everywhere else in the world, and this train is popular with commuters, so people line up thirty or more minutes before the track is officially announced 100
probably just paul @enpaul.net · 11/06/2026But, a quick walk down the connecting ramp, dodging the people that stop in the middle to stare at the departure board, and the views do not disappoint. This probably is the most beautiful train station in the country 100
probably just paul @enpaul.net · 11/06/2026Twenty two minutes later we're downtown at Philadelphia 30th street station! The famous part of the station (beautiful, elegant, art deco) is the Amtrak side. The SEPTA side of the station is a bit... less grand 100
probably just paul @enpaul.net · 11/06/2026Never a good sign when you can literally see the humidity 100
probably just paul @enpaul.net · 11/06/2026I've seen this train be standing room only before, but today there's plenty of space! More importantly though there's AC on all the trains, which is critical when it's already 76° and 60% humidity at 7am 200
probably just paul @enpaul.net · 11/06/2026First step of this journey is the SEPTA Manayunk/Norristown line. At this time of day, the train comes every half hour and usually runs on time. 20min and $6.50 later and I'll be downtown 100
probably just paul @enpaul.net · 11/06/2026For context, I live in Manayunk, a neighborhood of Philadelphia in the far northwest of the city. My company's office is in downtown Brooklyn. Despite Google's pessimistic prediction here, it will not take almost 3hrs to get there, and I can be confident of that because I'm traveling by train! 100
probably just paul @enpaul.net · 11/06/2026Good morning! It's time for my once-a-month commute from my home in #Philadelphia to my company office in #NYC! This month I figured I'd try live posting my way through it and see what happens, so follow along if you'd like! 110

probably just paul @enpaul.net · 25/03/2026Not to brag, but I got 10/10 correct in the game of "pokemon or cloud native", which is where you guess whether a funny nonsense word is the name of a cloud native computing project, or the name of a pokemon. hubwoop.github.io 010
probably just paul @enpaul.net · 15/01/2026Another day, another train. This time for work, and this time to NYC 010

probably just paul @enpaul.net · 02/12/2025When your local train breaks down, you end up running forty minutes late, but you still make your connection because the express train is also running late 010

probably just paul @enpaul.net · 10/08/2024SEPTA must have the widest gap between coolness of its name and coolness of its logo of any transit system. I mean, look at this logo: it's beautiful, unique, iconic, and distinctive. And then it refers to "SEPTA" which sounds like some tech company that makes internet connected scissors or whatever 010
probably just paul @enpaul.net · 15/04/2024I love how the T spent a zillion dollars on these new fare gates at North Station just to keep them open most of the time 000
