Changeups are supposed to be better against opposite handed hitters. This year, they aren’t. And guess which team has capitalized on a key insight from a statistical model about which changeups should be thrown to same handed hitters? t.co/cciLqIkBQX

Paul Skenes' velo is down. One pitching coach mentioned that he was throwing more cross-bodied and with last year (left) and this year (right). But generally, I think Skenes will be fine. The normal outcomes for a pitcher with a 30% strikeout rate leap off the page t.co/jbzwjOV2Kx

I found these two aging curves to be validating, but I also think they inspire more questions when it comes to Cam Schlittler's approach and how it will age.

There's a manufacturing issue with the baseball. Drag is down. Link unclear. Full story to come shortly, but here's the statement I got from MLB when I asked about it.

Revisiting tough ranks from earlier in the season, these are the the ten pitchers with the biggest difference between their actual ERA in May and their rest-of-season projected ERA (by OOPSY), and how they did in the last 30.

Minor league injuries dwarf major league ones, of course, because of the sheer number of minor leaguers. But why do the Yankees, Mets, and Orioles rise to the top no matter how you slide the data? @brittghiroli.bsky.social and I investigated: www.nytimes.com/athletic/733...

Last September, @michaelrosen.bsky.social wrote that Janson Junk varied his arm angle but maintained the shape on his four seamer. So Junk said he went to @drivelinebaseball.com & asked them to help him find his ideal arm angle. He's settled on one this year, & that's what gave him more velo.

my working theory based off of some stuff from Petriello is that domes are easier to defend, particularly in the outfield, and they've dialed in their outfield defense over time. can't be all of it though (BA/SLG on OF fly balls here) baseballsavant.mlb.com/statcast_sea...

If you’re going to San Francisco, and like beer, Toronado & Bare Bottle are musts. But make room for a trip across bay if you can. Take the BART to Ashby. Cellarmaker, Wondrous & Tenma Beer all in a couple mile radius, pleasant neighborhood walks to pristine beers.
