There has been a lot of warranted discourse about California's pro-housing laws underperforming, but in cities where YIMBYs have won local elections and implemented in good faith, the last 10 years have seen an absolute sea change in permitting.

I had a great weekend at the California Democratic Party Convention! I attended the Close the Gap California Party for Parity, got re-elected to my Northern Vice Chair Seat for the AAPI Caucus, and saw my friend, Deepa get elected to be the Vice Chair of the Party!

The Mountain View Coty Council will meet on May 27. It begins at 5:00pm with a closed session. This meeting is in person at City Hall, but you can also join the meeting online. Regular session begins at 6:30pm with a Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander Heritage Month Proclamation.

This involved mechanical commissioning and implementation of an all-electric hot water systems. The facility is the first electrified municipal aquatics center in California to include more than 10,000 sq. ft. of pool area.

💦 It was a long time coming, but we finally had our grand opening of our new aquatics center! The planned summer 2024 opening of the Aquatics Center was delayed to March 2025 due to construction challenges.

A #throwbackthursday to this past Saturday when I did another ribbon cutting as the Vice Mayor. We welcomed Mission Binz which sells Amazon, Target, and retail returns and overstock. They start the week on Saturday with items on sale for $20 and then end it on $1 on Fridays.

Next I went to a grand event to celebrate my friend Cameron Sasai becoming the first Filipino Mayor of Pinole. Not only is he the first Filipino Mayor, he is also the first Japanese Mayor. He was sworn in by CA Attorney General Rob Bonta and did a big taiko performance.

Another committee interviewed by the full council is the Rental Housing Committee (RHC). The remaining advisory boards are interviewed by a subcommittee of the mayor, vice-mayor and immediate past mayor.

Like many of our boards and commissions, this is a volunteer position that holds a lot of impact with the way our city plans and grows. Because of its importance, interviews are done with the entire council.

Due to the election of Councilmember Chris Clark, his EPC seat was vacated. Council will be interviewing the following three candidates to complete his term: Tina Pham, IdaRose Sylvester, and Douglas Woolverton.

The EPC's main functions include participating in regional planning, managing the city's environmental planning process, monitoring and communicating progress on plan implementation with the City Council, public agencies, and citizens, and coordinating with other public agencies.

The EPC develops and recommends long-term plans, including the General Plan, for the city's physical development and oversees the city's environmental planning process. It consists of seven members, supported by the Planning Division of the Community Development Department.
