Nice, bookmarklets are always cool I ran Spot Size Check on html-color-picker.github.io one issue: Looks like the DOM elements you add are stacked behind the standard <dialog> element

And the fun starts when you used: :not:defined { display: none } to prevent FOUCs or any other weird reason. Because DSD - Declarative ShadowDOM creates *undefined* Custom Elements The Custom Elements JavaScript *API* makes them :defined

11% of the world population only speak Mandarin, and probably won't use our sites/tools/blogs. Why should we worry about 111 people in the world being AI haters?

No, Eternity is waiting for Apple to support Customized Built-In Elements. Earlier this year I retired after 36 years in the Internet business, feels like yesterday I UUdecoded that first executable file in my Email in 1990 Web Components is now my hobby

> the only trade is slightly longer selectors Depends, In my course code the selectors (for CSS on Undefined Custom Elements) are shorter. AND the HTML is shorter and better readable. no more searching for that </closing DIV>

> i’ve wanted to do this in my systems for ages! Not ages, Applying CSS to Undefined Custom Celements (which are NOT HTMLUnknownElement even if AI claims so) has been possible since: ✅️ 2016 - Chrome ✅️ 2017 - Safari ✅️ 2018 - FireFox ✅️ 2020 - Edge (when they switched to Chromium)

Learn to ignore the slop. I don’t like Botox faces and inflated lips. I can get annoyed every time I see one—or simply look elsewhere. AI will produce mountains of slop. You don’t have to consume or fight it. Learn to filter. Ignore the junk. Spend your attention on what’s worth it.

It’s not going down the drain. It’s being condensed Stack Overflow usage dropped to almost zero Yet ask a Web Components or topic X question, and you GET an answer. It still works fine The Web was similar mid 90s: suddenly every [beep] was making lousy webpages. Until we learned to create pages

FYI In Chrome 152 there is a custom-element pill available in DEV-tools Elements If it is a *defined* Custom Element/Web Component a click takes you to the JavaScript source code For a *undefined* Custom Element the pill is still displayed but nothing happens FireFox did this since 2018 Safari?

We know our history. The Netherlands went through a Hunger-Winter in 44/45 Half of the country was starving. The Americans wanted to go to Berlin fast and after the fights in Belgium headed east. The Netherlands was not of importance to them. Canadian and Polish brigades liberated The Netherlands

We got :defined when Custom Elements where implemented. Chromium (2016) Safari (2017) FireFox (2018) to make the distinction between UNdefined Custom Elements (any <tag-name> with a hyphen) and Defined Custom Elements (when the Custom Elements API was called) BOTH are valid HTMLElement, can be used.

> start calling them "custom elements" all the time. That's is like calling everyone Joe. * shadowDOM attached to a <div> is *not* using Custom Elements * Customized Built-In Elements are *not* Custom Elements Only tags with a hyphen *are* Custom Elements (even without using JavaScript)

Yes, I have BaseClasses etc. too And I did steal from Lit But the moment you publish it for someone else to use *you* become the dependency Most public repos out there have unmaintained code, because the developer lost attention and learned a new trick And it is all being read by AI... to learn

> Have you ever seen one that ticks all of your boxes? No. After 36 years in this Internet business I have seen soo many technologies come and go. I now stick to native code "Robin Hood" style only, absolutely no JavaScript dependencies. I steal code from the feature rich, and add it to the poor.

Many native Elements are Web Components with shadowDOM Here is the "closed" <video> DOM in Chromium and FireFox I presume the "closed" option for us mortal developers is a relic of these earlier developments Hardly serves a purpose if you can download the source and just do a replace to "open"

:𝘯𝘰𝘵(:𝘥𝘦𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘥) { 𝘷𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺: 𝘩𝘪𝘥𝘥𝘦𝘯; } is only a "solution" if you own ALL Web Components in the page. if another developer purposely put a UNdefined Custom Element in that page... it will never show because it is not :defined

Why do Web Components/Custom Elements need a spotlight? Its standard technology What does it matter if 1000 devs use that technology or 1 million devs? Ask a question on BlueSky/StackOverflow and you get a decent correct answer, and you can do your job There is no value in getting 1000 answers

Its not Lit that make Custom Elements terrific. native Custom Elements are terrific by themselves, Lit is just sugar that saves you work, like jQuery once was for front-end development. But I am biased, only done native Web Components for the past 10 years.
