1. A period of smooth muscle quiescence lasting 45 to 60 minutes, during which there are only rare action potentials and contractions.
2. A period of roughly 30 minutes in which peristaltic contractions occur and progressively increase in frequency.
Peristalsis originates in the stomach and propagates through the small intestine.

Aside from its apparent importance in maintaining patency of the gastrointestinal lumen, the migrating motor complex has potentially important theraputic and social implications:
• Blood levels of drugs that are
differentially absorbed in the stomach and small intestine may vary unpredictably depending on whether they are taken during digestive or interdigestive phases, when mechanisms of gastric emptying are different - this is reflected in the recommendation accompanying many drugs to ingest before or with meals.
• Migrating motor complexes can be noisy and are the cause of "growling."
Fortunately, you can usually squelch a migrating motor complex by ingesting some food, allowing transition into a quiet, digestive pattern of motility. If food is not available (let's say you're undergoing a job interview or waiting in line with your date at a concert), you can at least explain the phenomenon and gain points for intellect.

Doesn't seem like it takes that much effort, endoscopes get into the intestines without much resistance. A prey who wants to go into the intestines usually can crawl down into them. The duodenum secreting bicarbonate is reactive and not timed with peristaltic activity IIRC.

"Prey being alive and intact" is the most agreed upon definition across both subgroups with similar results on "inside the body" and "absence of digestion" also being basically in the same range.

[ endosoma edgecase survey / mentions of subjects / people say... things in the write ins ] There was a survey question that was used for some cross tabbing as obviously there was two subsets of people who took the survey (exclusive/near-exclusive and leans/nonfatals). These splits stuck out to me.

The breakdown of the two subgroups, nonfatal only can have militant aspects so there was still nonfatal only who expressed exclusivities.

Ambiguity is tolerated but nonfatal/endo lean more often picked "I headcanon" while safe/exclusive went with "ambiguous based on artist". Safe/endo also rely on the endosoma tag more often, but still frequently go with ambiguous works likely because endosoma tag is not frequently used anyways.

A surprising result? Unclear. There are with filth/scat similar endo exclusive / endo lean amounts suggesting that vore type has no correlation to a filth/scat pref. Perm/indefinite is a polarizing subject for safe/exclusive, with a solid 21/48 being fine with with but there being also 18/48 who regard it as an instant turnoff. RPing digestion is disliked second only to scat for endo/safe types but leans are noticeably more fine with it.

Tagging appropriateness-wise the most noticeable split is how pic/work wide it is, presence of other preys being melted has noticeably more people into safe/endo considering it inappropriate while leans/nonfatal exclusives dont see it as inappropriate.

I am fascinating by this bit of data. Mean and unwilling endosoma on the survey were considered fine by most of the respondents. I know there is an “it depends” caveat due to the other section going through themes but this was asking if they disliked it or were fine with it.

65 were fine with mean or unwilling CONFIRMED endo. Only 3-4 regarded it as an instant turnoff and 12-13 disliked mean or unwilling endosoma. Even when cross tabbing, most hard exclusively into endo we’re fine with mean/unwilling endo. There are people who dislike it, of course.

"How important is it that a picture is tagged endosoma" survey results that show half the respondants are fine with ambiguous but the runner up results show that artist track record is a significant consideration despite there being a good share of people who will headcanon. OC track record and being explicitly endosoma has a subset, there were also a few interesting write ins.
