Canvases: Finally Real Widgets for Apple Shortcuts
Apple Shortcuts capture states, but showing them as a widget? Not a chance. The beta app "Canvases" by @simonbs@mastodon.social now makes it possible with a few shortcuts actions.

Here’s a Canvases widget I use every day. My local gym has a gate that you open through their app when entering and leaving. The app is ugly and slow. So I made a widget that shows how many people are currently at the gym. Tapping it runs a shortcut that lets me check in or out and opens the gate.

We do it with trainers who are associated with nacsw.net but I imagine there are other groups too It's extremely intellectually stimulating, 15 minutes of nose work will wipe Cleo out for the day It's good for dogs of all shapes, sizes, ages and levels of reactivity too

Before Obsidian: A Short History of Networked Knowledge and Markup
Obsidian did not emerge from nowhere. This article traces the decades of ideas behind it, from Vannevar Bush’s Memex and Ted Nelson’s Xanadu to the web, wikis, knowledge management, and Markdown. It shows how Obsidian combines networked thinking, backlinks, transclusion, and plain-text durability into a practical personal knowledge system.

BarCuts picks up changes to your Shortcuts workflows and new ones as you go along, you don't have to restart it. There might be bugs – it's a beta. It's under active development; I started working on it only 12 days ago, and I'm very happy with the current state. I'd love for you to test it! 🤙🏼
