Emyn Dean @emyndean.bsky.social · 9hthis is really useful data. Is it available for all the parties? 000
Emyn Dean @emyndean.bsky.social · 09/10/2026bro, we just got eliminated from the playoffs yesterday, cut a little slack 010
Emyn Dean @emyndean.bsky.social · 01/10/2026wow, I can't believe this map involving English political subdivisions and music is somehow controversial 150
Emyn Dean @emyndean.bsky.social · 01/10/2026well, we finally got the stains out after the incident 000
Emyn Dean @emyndean.bsky.social · 30/09/2026there's one in our closet. I've not seen anyone wear it and I'm not sure where it came from 011

Emyn Dean @emyndean.bsky.social · 24/09/2026In Star Trek: Academy (1997), it's suggested that Kirk edited the AI of the Klingon commanders to behave in a friendly and helpful way, allowing him to convince them to break off their attack. Somehow, in the 21st century, we've already made AI more dangerous by its helpfulness. 000

Emyn Dean @emyndean.bsky.social · 24/09/2026I mean, the AfD are some distance to the left of the Conservative Party these days 000
Emyn Dean @emyndean.bsky.social · 23/09/2026this is probably due to the vast volume of AI written queries/complaints we get 000
Emyn Dean @emyndean.bsky.social · 21/09/2026I don't like to question people's motives; I'm interested in evidence. Campaigning doesn't make you money, unless you're spinning it into some kind of side gig/personal brand, or you're (likely illegally) seeking big donations which you don't spend. 000
Emyn Dean @emyndean.bsky.social · 21/09/2026mate if you're paying council tax on chips something has gone terribly wrong 110
Emyn Dean @emyndean.bsky.social · 21/09/2026That's not how political parties or elections work. You pay, or your political party pays. You pay VAT on anything that has VAT. You do not get any money back. Running for an election is expensive. If you're running for elections for profit, you're being paid by Russia, not HMRC. 200
Emyn Dean @emyndean.bsky.social · 21/09/2026you do not get money back for things claimed on expenses this is not how anything works 110
Emyn Dean @emyndean.bsky.social · 21/09/2026you still have to pay for everything you claim on expenses claiming on expenses just means it counts towards the statutory election maximum (you don't have to claim reasonable refreshment for volunteers) 210
Emyn Dean @emyndean.bsky.social · 21/09/2026As a politician, he might consider speaking in language the public understands, rather than of relatively obscure procedures few people understand 000
Emyn Dean @emyndean.bsky.social · 10/09/2026ahaa. true, now that you mention it, I have never eaten spaghetti in a Ghanaian bar 110
Emyn Dean @emyndean.bsky.social · 09/09/2026I think the demand is stoked less by the size of the things and more by the fact that there's now several hundred billion of them 100
Emyn Dean @emyndean.bsky.social · 09/09/2026Well yes, but also silver and gold were massively oversupplied at the time, compared to today's market. In the era before solar panels and chips gold and silver were about 1/5 their current value minimum wage has indeed been stagnating, but this isn't the best example of that 100
Emyn Dean @emyndean.bsky.social · 02/09/2026also, I'm convinced Nigel is completely uninterested in power and is really only interested in personal enrichment 170
Emyn Dean @emyndean.bsky.social · 02/09/2026because their voters are completely different and have wildly different expectations(?) 010
Emyn Dean @emyndean.bsky.social · 02/09/2026this is really useful, thanks. I was in Canada at the time and never really grasped the contemporaneous British response (aside from vaguely following new atheist racism) 000
Emyn Dean @emyndean.bsky.social · 01/09/2026I agree with much of what is written here, but to nitpick, nobody has been excommunicated for being trans-positive 020
Emyn Dean @emyndean.bsky.social · 01/09/2026I'm more bothered by the fact that he seems to have a copy of his book strategically propped up against a lamp 010

We may not be adequately prepared for how angry students are about tech. 2.) They are not all angry for the same reasons. 3.) Being angry at it doesn’t mean they aren’t using it. The sense of entrapment fuels the anger. 301219318

Emyn Dean @emyndean.bsky.social · 22/08/2026It is reasonable to infer that this man's "views" are what caused his hounding. Moreover, I know of no academic who is not ready, even excited, to defend their "views". It's literally the thing we do every day. What we don't want is people asking us if we can play football or not 010
Emyn Dean @emyndean.bsky.social · 20/08/2026once you've crossed this bridge it's hard to go back though, and players effectively begin to see behind the screen, so you can't save them from their own decisions as easily 120
Emyn Dean @emyndean.bsky.social · 20/08/2026the benefit of pre-set DM probabilities is that they're quite newbie-friendly and you can and should fudge them if the result of a check is going to be upsetting or break the game. But if you've got experienced players it can be very fun to pass this burden (and knowledge) to them 121
Emyn Dean @emyndean.bsky.social · 20/08/2026well in some systems, the DM isn't really that involved at all, you start by asking the players "what stakes do you want" and then you proceed to the check. This does require some understanding by players of probability, however (or players comfortable with risk, injury, death etc) 120
