Be bold in your vision and actions. Speak plainly and tell the truth. Show up in real, authentic ways. Get to know folks. And fight like hell for them. It’s really not that complicated.

NEW from @emtseffos.bsky.social: "Less than 48 hours in, while we have seen examples of condolences or grief, too much of the discourse following Mr. Kirk’s death has amounted to points scored in an endless online game." Column: www.therecombobulationarea.news/p/we-have-to...

We have to say “Enough!” and have the courage to mean it
"Every time either side chooses to treat fellow Americans as enemies to be destroyed, it feeds the same permission structures that make violence feel inevitable."

If 2025 is truly the Year of the Kid, don’t settle for anything less than they deserve. Draw the line with this budget — and hold it. My thoughts in this month’s column over at The Recombobulation Area…

Defund, discredit, dismantle: The GOP’s quiet war on Wisconsin’s public schools
The rapid rise of school funding referendums makes it all the more clear that Wisconsin lawmakers need to better invest in public funds for public schools in the next state budget.

If you’re wondering what to do: • Start conversations • Support local organizers • Show up to public meetings • Volunteer, donate, share Refuse to look away The alarm is sounding. Will you answer it? 9/9

You don’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to have all the answers. You just have to decide to step in. Right now. We need you — present, human, brave. 8/

But please: don’t stop at worry. Don’t stop at heartbreak. Because you still have power. To speak up. To show up. To organize. To resist. 7/

So if you’re worried? Good. That means you’re awake. If your heart breaks at what you see? Good. That means you still believe in people. 6/

And in that space, the worst people are organizing. They’re defunding departments. Targeting immigrants. Undermining public trust. Chipping away at democracy — in plain sight. 5/

And that pause — that moment — has stuck with me all day. Because I don’t think he’s alone. So many people are awake. Aware. Even heartbroken. But stuck in the space between knowing and acting. 4/

So I asked the next question — the one I think a lot of us avoid: “Do you know keeping you from doing something? From sounding the alarm?” He didn’t have an answer. 3/

Then I asked: “Do you feel something when you see people like Kilmar Abrego Garcia being targeted? People who followed every rule to come here legally?” He said: “Yeah. That worries me.” 2/

I asked my partner a question today. He follows the news. He’s thoughtful, well-informed, kind. I asked: “With everything you know, are you worried?” He said: “Yes.” 1/

Guess who just got elected as Chair of the County Chairs Association with @wisdems.bsky.social & whose sole focus will be supporting our existing infrastructure (county parties what’s uppp?!) to organize in every corner of the state between now and Nov 2026? (Spoiler alert: it’s me) LFG. 👊🇺🇸🔥

lol the same folks whose main argument was that the Dems are beholden to Soros (pretty unfounded, btw) are twisting themselves in all kinds of knots to excuse the billionaire who is literally attempting to buy off Wisconsinites The hypocrisy is maddening.

Yessssssss. From the ground up! Nobody is coming to save us, and we on the ground are the most powerful vehicle when it comes to enacting change locally! Ready to go (again! 😅) in 2026!

And by the way, the public school Raj attends is INCREDIBLE and I’m grateful for them every day. #wisconsin #publiceducation 4/4

(As it stands, private schools are not held to the same standards when it comes to accepting kids with special needs or supporting their learning, but still use the public tax dollars intended to support our public school districts) 3/

ICYMI, *ALL* kids deserve an appropriate and adequate education so they can achieve their full potential — no matter who they are, where they come from, or what learning looks like. 2/

I went to a listening session last night & was scolded for 10 min by my state senator about the “shitty job” public schools are doing as she made her case for vouchers (even though private schools won’t accept kids like my youngest bc they legally aren’t required to have the supports he needs) 1/

Good in theory and on socials but I’m a county party chair in Wisconsin and there is plenty of room for *improvement* in our strategy on the ground throughout this state. Let’s center & work with grassroots organizers who understand the current landscape and now how to execute to achieve success!

I hear that. The road ahead is long and winding and will be awful so many. But we find out how to maneuver and be effective in this world, we gather, and we protect those who need it. Because what else is there? I hope you get there.

TBH, I’d be lying if I didn’t admit that part of me wants to tune out and turn away from this moment, this trajectory we’re seemingly on. But I’d be lying as well if I didn’t see in each of us the potential we have to change all of it. To chart a new path, together. Read my guest column here:

So please, FOR THE LOVE, @WisDems @benwikler find you a protege that understands this and is committed to prioritizing and organizing around this at a hyper-local level. We don’t have time to waste. 5/5

Empowering current chairs and membership to step into those vacuums that exist within their own communities. Here’s the truth: We’re at a REAL disadvantage when it comes to fighting disinformation, messaging that works, and showing up. 4/

We have an outstanding infrastructure built across the state from Racine to Vernon to Washburn to Door to Outagamie to Dunn to Milwaukee county, but as a chairperson I haven’t seen a real focus on building sustained, authentic power in those local communities… 3/

I’d love to see a leadership team from Wisconsin who truly understands folks from across the state (pull from outside of Dane County!?) with intellect when it comes to policy, an ability to raise those dollars, AND deep organizing experience. 2/

Huge gratitude for the work @benwikler has done here in Wisconsin - he’s led @WisDems well, raising over $200 million during his time. We’ve got so much work to do (and I’m still convinced that the grassroots is where we make inroads in WI), so here’s my hope for the next DPW chair: 1/
