Yeah, I'd say at this point it's MediaPipe-derived, running via ONNX :) Using Monado’s Mercury tracker as well. There is a bunch of post-processing going on as well probably making it seem more stable than it is, it's not raw model predictions the end-user ends up seeing! But yeah, thanks a lot! :)

Ooh, hands with fingers, tentacles and hooks! Probably could squeeze in a tail or something in there too

@imajunation.bsky.social wanna draw 2D hands to be shown in the headsets 3D world, as the user hands? :)

Another hand/finger tracking experiment, this time using the built-in monochrome cameras on the Steam Frame! Everything runs on-device, including the recording of the video itself! 🥳 #SteamOS #Linux #SteamFrame #VR #SteamFun

I gotta say, this is kind of strange to start seeing multiple times now, is this how they made it "more efficient"? :P

haha, I wonder if that original comment is sarcasm or something, can't be they waited until *now* to dogfood this, right?

Did they add new things to the prompts to stress out the models more? Never seen any GPT model reason/think like this before for a normal prompt that didn't mention any time pressure...

Protip: It's easier to steer agents not to add bloaty and unneeded code in the first place, than it is to remove it after it's been added :)

I am not joking when I say this. Spotify, Apple Music, and streaming in general is over. Bandcamp Fridays is now very, very good. You don't know yet because all Bandcamp Friday bangers circulating today is from 2-3 sales ago. Bandcamp Fridays et al has solved infinite bangers.

I just started hosting my own projects on my own private infrastructure, and now embed a source.zip in my distributed packages, for the people who want to extend/hack on the code itself. Maximum friction, maximum FOSS.

That's the stuff though, it's so pleasant to ship small binaries 🤤

People are seemingly still sleeping on GPT-OSS-120b which is still a beast.

There seemingly is a new section of developer TUI tools, not really meant for developers who live in the terminal, but some other group that wants to run it in the terminal for some other unknown reasons

the future could be magnificent, and you deserve a share of it
Retro-futurist propaganda poster overlooking a radiant, green utopian city of rivers, bridges, gardens, and gleaming towers at sunrise. Four people and a shaggy dog sit on a flower-covered hillside, gazing toward the city. Across the sky in huge block lettering: “the future could be magnificent, and you deserve a share of it.”

I love it when things are just fast and simple, why over-complicate things? Self-hosted #forgejo is just cherry on the top

I'm excited to announce that the PLC Organization now has a statute! And a bank account! And a @standard.site publication! All the important stuff. The PLC Org is an independent Swiss Association meant to operate the PLC directory, which collects and distributes signed updates to atproto accounts.

hot take: I prefer when people just call, state their business and/or we chat about whatever, then hang up and we're done talking, much better than long drawn out conversations over days

Hopefully getting my camera today, will dig into if it's a software thing or that's actually expected, seems not awesome judging by that

Huh yeah, that doesn't look all that great tbh, supposed to be 5K 10-bit HDR (2464x2464 per eye if I understand correctly), but that screenshot indeed looks less than ideal. Wonder if it's a software thing for now? What FPS are you running it at? I'm guessing quality would degrade the higher it is
210
embedding-shapes @emsh.cat · 28/09/2026
But still must be a night and day difference compared to the built-in Frame cameras no? This is how mine looks, I sure hope the Arcturus have a hell of a lot better quality than that.

> didn't seem like the image quality is *that* much better than the built-in mono passthrough That can't possibly be true? The build-in mono passthrough is absolutely horrible, cannot read any text barely, the Arcturus camera has to be MUCH better than that? Haven't received my camera yet tho

0.0.8 - UX and wider playback support
New update hot of the presses, with wider support for more videos, easy alignment that is remembered per video (only per app session for now, will add opt-in private persistence in the future), revamp...

Heh, installing ChatGPT/Codex and trying Voice mode was one of the first things I tried, and letting Astra both see what I see and be able to edit things in the VR world at the same time, while I walk around in my house, was a pretty cool experience, not gonna lie

Very cool! H3VR was one of the first games I played on the Oculus Rift back in the day, cool to see it's still being updated! Is these new builds native ARM ones or using Proton/Leptos for "emulation"?

Science says a lot of stuff, life and practical realities sometimes disagree with that :) Stuff like that leads people who earn 35K believe they'd be double as happy if they just earned 70K, which truly isn't how happiness works

Seriously, stop thinking about *they* and starting thinking about *me* (from your perspective) and $0 and $100M ARR has exactly the same effect on you :)

I found no native Steam Frame applications for local playback standalone on the device itself, so I made it myself! :) Native ARM64 binary with Iris hardware decoding, GPU rendering and OpenXR running directly on the headset standalone, all hardware accelerated! \o/ #SteamOS #Linux #SteamFrame

There is wired option? Streaming works fine via USB-C as far as I've tested it on Arch Linux, not sure about other dists. Was basically plug and play for me

not gonna lie, the transcript does sound like it was written by AI, even looking past the obvious transcript failures :p

If you're a dev that knows/uses Linux, the Steam Frame is a no-brainer compared to any other standalone headset

"starting to"? We've been getting those for decades already! Nowadays it's mostly fun, since even for decade old projects I don't really mind if they end up using it or not, so I always try to answer as ambiguously as possible.

Almost embarrassed to say this but, I just got the Steam Frame and one of the first things I felt like I had to do once inside the desktop environment, was to get Codex installed and get dictation going...

No, don't say that I still enjoy idle games
000
embedding-shapes @emsh.cat · 24/09/2026
Wow, I feel the pure opposites, very interesting. For me all the exciting stuff of designing, solving problems, polishing and building the experience are faster and I can spend more time on them, and the actual typing, or moving code and similar stuff is now outsourced.
010
embedding-shapes @emsh.cat · 24/09/2026
Communication and people was always the biggest bottleneck and problem to solve in software organizations, it was never about "if we could only write more code faster" or any technical reasons. LLMs will balloon these issues to new heights, and make it even more obvious.
