Even if rich people were no more prone to believe stupid shit than you or me, it would still be a problem. After all, I believe in my share of stupid shit (and if you think none of the shit you believe in is stupid, I'm afraid we've just identified at least one kind of stupid shit you believe). 1/
A king on a sumptuous, much elaborated throne; in one hand he holds a sceptre of office, in the other, the leashes for two fierce stone dogs that guard the throne. The king's head has been replaced with a character who was used as the basis for MAD Magazine's Alfred E Neumann. The new head sports a conical dunce cap. Behind the king is a large group of 1960s business men, seated and standing, in conservative suits. The background is the view from the 80th floor of World Trade Center 3. The floor has been carpeted in sumptuous tabriz from the Ottoman court.

The gutting of the media industry and harrowing realities facing journalists in Gaza have made it hard for @pacinthe.bsky.social to feel hopeful. In the student press, she's found a model for how to cover this moment with persistence, courage, and accountability. thewalrus.ca/when-it-matters-...
On the left: an image of an arm holding up a microphone on a red background. On the right: text that reads “When it matters most, student journalists are showing up. Times are grim for the media industry. But young reporters are covering the stories that need to be told.”

A theory about vibes: Human beings are deeply social creatures. Our need for a legible social order is rooted almost as deeply in our brainstem as our need for basic physical security. We need -- not want, need -- to understand who's in charge, who are allies, who are enemies, *how things work*.

seared my brain on this 6,500 word piece to write you a semi coherent thread into the mind of a billionaire obsessed with the antichrist (and people who, in my opinion, have way too much money, paranoia, and time while others just want to put food on the table)

For the first time, researchers succeeded in implanting Crispr-edited pancreatic cells in a man with type 1 diabetes. In this experiment, edited cells produced insulin for months after being implanted, without the need for the recipient to take any immunosuppressive drugs.

You almost never see/hear/read a person-on-the-street quote in which that person is saying "Yeah, immigrants are great." If it hates it rates just like if it bleeds it leads, and we get a disproportionate number of right-wingers sharing their hate and disinformation about immigration from msm.

📰 Media exposure and extreme views A new study found that uncritical TV interviews with extreme right activists increase agreement with their views and the belief that more people support them. 🔗 www.cambridge.org/core/journal... #SciComm 🧪 #MediaBias
