Happy 171st birthday Evelyn De Morgan I am always thinking of you 💖 drafts of all my book chapters are DONE, and only the intro, conclusion, and some in between bits to write! (Here’s chapter 1, love to open with a bit)
Photo of chapter 1 of my book MS. “Life and Death: Thermodynamics, The Unseen Universe, and the Dual Drives of De Morgan's Little Mermaid' Paintings”

“'[Evelyn] can't live long. I...] She will burst and die [...].
(In another hand.)
[Evelyn], to you I come; in your life there are many thorns and you long for a peace that never comes. I [...] come to tell you that you have found the path, and that though the body be weak and the days dark, the end is in sight. Your song shall be
sung and your passing be joyful!
- spirit messengers, The Result of an Experiment (1909)

Did Evelyn De Morgan long for death? 'She was the least morbid person I ever met’, May Morris would later recall. But her private spirit communications tell a different story. In The Result of an Experiment (1909), De Morgan's voice is rarely…”

Calling all art historian sleuths! My friend saw this painting at a hotel in Wales and can't figure out anything about it. The hotel doesn't know where it came from. Any ideas how we could identify it? The style is a bit bizarre to me; looks like c20 'does' Dutch golden age but I could be wrong.
Photo of a painting in a hotel. The painting shows a still life scene of a model ship, a book, some apples, a leaf. In the background is another ship (unclear if a framed painting, or a view through a window). Looks like oil painting, mannered style.
