Lexingtonians want better roads, a fair shot at a good life, and elected officials who put the work in. They don’t want gerrymandered council districts, sexual predators in public office, or elected officials who don’t show up for work. #EmmaForLex #Election2026 #LGBTQ #Lexington #BelieveSurvivors

If you’re a Lexingtonian who has thoughts on data centers, please attend our special meeting tomorrow at 5:30pm in Council Chambers. Make your voices heard. And remember that we work for you.
Council is holding a special public input meeting about data centers in Lexington tomorrow, October 6th, at 5:30 PM in Council Chambers.

I have had more constituents reach out to me about this issue than any other in my time on Council. I have been listening the entire time and I have consistently heard the same thing: the 4th District wants Council to say "no" to major and hyperscale data centers, to slow down, and to make sure we get this policy right.

In that time, I've also been working to build consensus amongst my fellow Councilmembers to ensure that we do just that. I believe it's necessary for us to consider a path forward that allows us to take a more comprehensive and intentional approach.

This includes evaluating the need to extend the existing moratorium, reconsidering the data center provisions in the current recommended ZOTA, and exploring the creation of a separate zoning classification for data centers with clear standards for accessory uses.

During the Planning Commission's July 30th Meeting on data center regulations, I promised that if we do not have adequate regulations in place to protect our people, our resources, and our future by the current October 31st deadline, I would fight like hell to extend the moratorium.

I will keep that promise.

If you're a Lexingtonian who has thoughts on data centers, please attend the special meeting tomorrow at 5:30pm in Council Chambers.

Make your voices heard.

And remember that we work for you.

Griffin and I are endorsing each other! We’ve already worked together to make our streets safer, our neighborhoods stronger, our parks more usable, and our city more joyful. Council is a team sport. No one person can do it alone and we’re lucky to have each other in it. #EmmaForLex #GriffinForLex

Big news, y'all — we're endorsing each other!

We've been lucky enough to know each other for years. We've spent countless hours talking about our love for this city and imagining how we can make it better.

We've also already worked together to make our streets safer, our neighborhoods stronger, our parks more usable, and our city more joyful.

Council is a team sport. No one person can do this work alone, and we're lucky to have each other in it.

Together, we'll bring a renewed energy of friendship, trust, and collaboration to Council -and we wholeheartedly believe that Lexington will be better for it.

I don’t care about political purity testing—I just care about getting stuff done for my constituents. It was a joy and a surprise to speak with one of my favorite working writers, Grace Byron for her piece in i-D about the current state of the political left in America. i-d.co/article/is-t...
A photo of Emma taking a selfie in a mirror, wearing a blue formal dress with a black denim jacket over it and a City of Lexington pin on the jacket.

Over it, a graphic reads:

“It can't always be New York or LA

Someone's gotta hold it down in Lexington, KY”Instead, it's come back stronger
-thanks in large part to a new wave of Democratic Socialists led by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and his allies. Running on grassroots appeal and social media savvy, they've made politicians relatable again. Even alienated voters had to admit that Mayor Mamdani is cool—and he wanted to make New York affordable.
It's not just New York feeling optimistic about the left."A lot of my values that you could describe as leftist, progressive, what have you, are really just, in my mind, rooted in faith and my own spirituality. We have a tendency to play purity politics when it comes to terminology. I'm not particularly interested in that game. You want to call me a leftist? True. I don't care. I just care about helping working-class people and making my little corner of the world a little bit better."

Our campaign has been endorsed by C-FAIR! As KY’s only openly #trans elected official, I’ll always fight like hell to protect our #LGBTQ+ neighbors. My opponent thinks homophobia and transphobia are winning strategies. We proved her wrong in 2024. We’re going to do it again in 2026. #election

I hope you’ll join me in praying for Di’Zohn Robertson’s family, for all of those who were injured and their families, and for all impacted by this weekend’s mass shooting. And I hope you’ll join me in showing up for them as they navigate the unthinkable. We are going to get through this together.
A post from Emma that reads:

Friends,

As many of you have heard by now, Di' Zhon Robertson, a 16-year-old FCPS student, has been identified as the person who was killed in Saturday's mass shooting in Downtown Lexington.

Four more people were injured - a 4-year-old, a 14-year-old, and two adults - in this devastating act of violence.

Yesterday, the Lexington Police Department arrested the suspected gunman. He has been charged with murder, two counts of assault in the first degree, two counts of assault in the second degree, and tampering with physical evidence.

One Lexington will be holding two community healing space sessions today at the Dunbar Community Center for all who have been directly impacted. The first will run from 2:00-3:30pm.

The second will run from 5:00-700pm. There will be both onsite supports and connections for long-term trauma and mental health resources.

In moments like these, we cannot allow ourselves to give into fear or division.

I hope you'll join me in praying for Di'Zohn's family, for all of those who were injured and their families, as well as for all who have been impacted.

And I hope you'll join me in showing up for them as they navigate the unthinkable.

To anybody who has been impacted by this shooting, who is struggling in its aftermath, please know-you are not alone.

We are going to get through this together.

We know that so often, data centers kill communities. I hope that Lexington can be known as a community that kills data centers. Based on last night’s community engagement meeting at The Lyric Theatre, we are well on our way.
Emma poses outside The Lyric Theatre with Bluegrass DSA President Noah Cornett, Laborers Local #189 Political Director Jeremy Jenkins, and data center regulation advocate Erin PetreyA graphic, which reads:

Several citizens spoke openly to city and state lawmakers; none in attendance showed support for data center projects.

Fayette County Fourth District Council member Emma Curtis opposes the centers.

"As a Lexingtonian, my biggest concern about these data centers is rooted in our ability to protect our people and our resources," Curtis said. "We know that so often data centers kill communities, and I hope Lexington can be known as a community that kills data centers."

Some council members said they were still gathering information, while others openly opposed data center developments in Lexington. Curtis said that, thus far, she has not heard of any support for data centers.

"I have not gotten a single call, a single e-mail, or had a single conversation with a constituent in the fourth district who wants data centers in Fayette County.”
