My latest watercolour painting inspired by a photo I took of my Dad taking a photo of the lions at the Patio de los Leones in the Alhambra palace in Granada last summer #art #acuarela #watercolor
Watercolour painting by Emma Bolton of a white man in a red shirt, navy cap and bright blue shorts crouched down to take a photo over a gutter. Behind him is a pink building filled with beautiful archways covered by a pointed, brown tiled roof in the Patio de los Leones at the Alhambra palace in Granada. In the background are a turquoise sky and some cypress trees.

I'm loving @pagebound.bsky.social's new wrap-up, especially all the colour options. For my biggest reading day in May I paired the most intense novel with the silliest - highly recommend! Every time I open this anti-AI app I feel a burst of happiness. Now to explore the social features more
Pagebound reading wrap-up for May 2026. 1832 pages read. Best reading day May 11th with 207 pages. Books read on May 11: Island Witch and Doppelbänger. Most upvoted post: Good August noooooooo!!!!!

The beautiful pinks and blues of the pomegranate fountain in Granada at twilight
A three-tiered fountain that's decorated with alllegorical figures and giant pomegranates. In the twilight the fountain reflects pink and blue. It's surrounded by large trees and pink flowers in the foreground.

"Take your boner energy and put it into watercolour." Feeling ahead of the curve this morning as I sketch the Albaicín while listening to advice from @ifbookspod.bsky.social #art
Pencil sketch of a woman in a flowing dress walking down a curved street in the Albaicín, Granada, next to apartment blocks and a bell tower.

I had such a wonderful time painting the Paseo de los Tristes on a sunny winter day in Granada with my urban sketching group! I focused on capturing the 17th-century fountain with the beautiful view of the Alhambra in the background. #urbansketchers #urbansketching #watercolour #acuarela #art
Watercolour sketch by Emma Bolton of the seventeenth-century fountain in Paseo de los Tristes, looking up towards the forest and the Alhambra. A man is sketching on a low wall next to the fountain. The fountain and Alhambra are painted pink to contrast against the greens of the surrounding trees. Behind the sketchbook, is a partial view of the green bank of the river and pastel apartment blocks.

No matter how long I live overseas, nothing quite compares to swimming at an Australian beach. I hope you enjoy this watercolour sketch of the Sunshine Coast that I painted while visiting my family over the holidays #Watercolor #SketchbookArt #LandscapeArt #BeachVibes #EmmaBoltonArt #Art

I felt such a sense of achievement finishing this watercolour painting of Granada's Fuente de las Granadas. It was already one of my favourite monuments, and taking the time to paint it has helped me appreciate its details even more. #acuarela #art #spain
A watercolour painting of the Fuente de las Granadas or the pomegranate fountain in central Granada by Emma Bolton on a background of leaves. The three-tiered pink fountain is in the foreground while in the background are lush, textured trees, the mountains and a blue sky. The style is bright and illustrative.

Winter afternoons are for:
A medium-size black dog lying on a couch with a pale-green throw cover. The dog is lying under a thick, pink, textured blanket that covers her entire body except for her shiny nose, one half-opened brown eye and one ear. She is relaxed and falling asleep.

That's fair! It's from The Heiress Effect by Courtney Milan (and very memorable if you read the book, because of the character's extravagant outfits and also because obviously she's not what she seems.) If you like historical romance, it's a fun read!
"Someone should warn you," he muttered.
"Warn me about what?"
The man leaned forward and whispered dramatically. "The Feather Heiress."
"Her wealth comes from...goose down?"
"No." Whitting didn't look at him. It's originally from transcontinental steamers, if you must know. She's called the Feather Heiress because being around her is like being beaten to death by feathers."
He looked utterly serious. Oliver shook his head in exasperation. "You can't beat someone to death with a feather."
"You're an expert on it, are you?" Whitting raised his chin. "Shows how much you know..."

I am a feather heiress. I do lile wearing all the bright colours, so it checks out

A watercolour sketch I still love of this cute kiosk in Bib Rambla, Granada's busiest square. #art #urbansketching #acuarela
Watercolour sketch by Emma Bolton of a pale blue kiosk called Golosinas and an orange banner reading no. 25. The kiosk has fake columns decorating the front, a candy machine and brightly-coloured signs. It has navy trim, windows and an awning on the left. The sketchbook is being held up in front of the real kiosk in Bib Rambla, Granada on a sunny day.

Patio de Banderas takes my breath away every time I visit Sevilla. You pause under an orange tree to take in the white buildings with their golden details, tiny balconies and green shutters. Over the top of the walls and through the archway you glimpse the Cathedral (closer than it appears)
Gouache painting of Patio de Banderas, Sevilla by Emma Bolton. A white woman with long brown hair and wearing a yellow singlet and long pink skirt, walks in the square away from the viewer. She's staring at the Catherdral, the top of which can be seen above the two-storey white building with their yellow details and green shutters. Two tourists stand in the distance next to an archway, and there's a few orange trees.

Making the most of the early fall sunshine with some urban sketching in the Albaicín, Granada
Watercolour sketch in an A5 sketchbook by Emma Bolton of a one-storey white building in two-point perspective with a wooden door, terracotta roof, strong shadows and a cobalt sky held up in the Albaicín, Granada. There's a small palm tree to the left in front of a much taller building. A sign next to the door says Carmen de Nevot. Emma Bolton Art in a pink pomegranate watermark.

Can't decide if these women are feeling connected to the landscape or just trying to decide what to eat for lunch! Watercolour painting of Mirador de San Nicolás and the Alhambra, Granada #Art #Acuarela #Watercolor #Spain #TravelSketching
Watercolour painting of two white women in brightly-coloured jackets looking out towards a pink Alhambra and the Sierra Nevada mountains. They have their backs to the camera and sweaters tied around their necks. In the mid-ground are conifer trees and a terracotta roof. A watermark of a pink pomegranate that says Emma Bolton Art.

The Mirador de San Nicolás is a place that inspires people to be present, if only for a moment between a flurry of photos. These tourists might be feeling connected with the landscape, or maybe they're just thinking about lunch! #Art #Watercolour #Alhambra #Granada
Watercolour painting by Emma Bolton of three people sitting on the wall at Mirador de San Nicolás in Granada with their backs to the camera. They're wearing brightly-coloured jackets and looking out across the tiled roofs and greenery to the Alhambra and Sierra Nevada mountains in the distance.
