3/3 This time so far in Oslo, among Laureates and world leaders, begs the question: How do we ensure this never happens again? This is the question top of mind in our community today, and every day. I hold deep gratitude for all who commit their time to answering this call.

2/3 I’m honored to spend the week in Oslo, Norway for the Nobel Peace Conference, which is recognizing 2024 Laureate Nihon Hidankyo, a hibakusha movement from Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This recognition cements that the nuclear threat of today demands action.

1/3 Eighty years is a lifetime. Disarmament is not merely a goal, but a duty to all who paid the ultimate price and a moral imperative to future generations. Today, we recognize the survivors of the U.S. atomic bombings in Japan.

This declaration must not just be read—it must be acted on. It’s a rallying cry to governments, yes, but also to citizens, funders, and movements. It gives us the language and the momentum to push forward.

Policymakers are not going to act unless the public demands it. That’s why this declaration also calls on scientists, civil society, and faith leaders to step forward and create pressure from the ground up.

This declaration is not just a warning—it's a roadmap. It’s a call from Nobel Laureates and nuclear experts to stop sleepwalking into disaster and start taking practical, immediate steps to reduce nuclear risk.

Earlier in the day, a declaration of recommendations was signed for policymakers and leaders to reduce the threat of nuclear war. I am honored to have been one of the signatories of the declaration. A thread of my takeaways ⬇️

I had the honor to participate on a panel at the Nobel Laureate Assembly for the Prevention of Nuclear War in Chicago, IL yesterday alongside @wjhenn.bsky.social and Nobel Laureate Jody Williams. Yesterday was the 80th anniversary of the Trinity Test—the first detonation of a nuclear weapon.

Yesterday, I was delighted to moderate a panel at “From Trinity to Today,” an event hosted by @ploughshares.bsky.social partners @armscontrolnow.bsky.social and @winwithoutwar.bsky.social. The esteemed panelists explored modern nuclear risk and how to build a movement the current moment demands.

I join those calling for diplomacy at this critical moment, we have always know that diplomacy is the only tool that will prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons in the long run: www.politico.com/newsletters/...

Trump says Iran ‘wants to talk.’ Tehran disagrees.

Denials from Iran haven't deflated the Trump administration's optimism.
