Thanks! It is! I’m still not sure how to define the genre I’m going for. Side-scroller might fit the bill better than platformer.

And here's part 2! In this one, I focus on how to use a custom SkeletonModifier3D to procedurally map a mesh onto a Curve3D. youtu.be/Ls_B0_XiS7w #godot #gamedev #indiedev

Maybe it’s an article of faith, but I just believe the dickwaddery is unnecessary. Imagine Phil Spector’s contributions to music if he hadn’t spent his entire existence alienating people around him. Imagine Ronnie’s contributions if he hadn’t kept her away from a career for most of her adult life.

Beware of alpha transparency! Two years ago I made this skybox for my game, not knowing much about GPU rendering. It's basically 16 transparent and backlit textures cycling through each other and UV drifting, and it takes more time to render than all remaining 3D objects together. #godot #gamedev

If 100 people find a piece of art incredibly brilliant because it speaks to their own lives, and if 100,000 other people don’t see it because they lived different lives, does it mean the art is not brilliant after all?
000
The other robot @emitc2h.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
Finally, art isn’t just created. It’s experienced. The experience of the art influences the perception of creativity and is highly subjective. What are we supposed to do with that? It seems offensively reductive to average experiences.

The other robot @emitc2h.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
And that’s given that you can even identify those dimensions to begin with.
100
The other robot @emitc2h.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
To me, the problem stems from the fact that the dimensions themselves along which you could quantify the work of an artist are impossible to compare with each other, and thus impossible to rank in importance.
100
The other robot @emitc2h.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
On the other hand, you can intuit that some artists are standing out along so many dimensions, or so far from the norm in one specific dimension that you don’t need a number to declare them exceptional.
100
The other robot @emitc2h.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
Ranking is first and foremost a definition exercise. You have to define a numerical metric if you want to order them. It just seems impossible to me to construct a single axis that also isn’t repressingly reductive.

Can you listen to ACTUAL experts? Turn to academic research on this one. Ignore anyone that comes out of these AI labs. Read Adam Becker’s work to know why.

Again, buying into the doomer talk is VERY embarrassing. The people in your orbit advising you on this stuff are idiots. Don’t make Bernie’s mistake. Listen to actual academic experts on the subject: Timnit Gebru, Emily Bender, Cal Newport, etc.

I’m really not bashing composition here, especially since inheritance is still a bit lacking in Godot. I’m personally a big fan of using a combination of both approaches.
110
The other robot @emitc2h.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Thanks for catching this and sharing. It makes me think though, this kind of property check is much, much less necessary when you have a solid inheritance-based implementation. It allows you to guarantee the presence of properties with the class type alone.

Ok, this is actually good. You don’t need to concede AI doomer talking points to have a salient argument for regulating AI.

All these AI companies are doing with pretending LLMs have agency is creating a way to deflect accountability. Please stop believing their rationalist sci-fi bullshit.

It’s maddening to see people in such positions of power take this stuff seriously instead of laughing it off. Senator Patty Murray also reacted this way today. Please touch grass. Go talk to Cal Newport or something. Cal Newport is grass.

I use them every day at my work. I’ve used machine learning and deep learning for over a decade at this point. The usefulness and limitations of LLMs are crystal-clear to me. I’m so sick of all this hype.
110
The other robot @emitc2h.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
It’s an exceedingly narrow application while its being touted as general intelligence. The general intelligence part is the illusion. Call me back when LLMs are capable of doing more than throwing a thousand darts at a wall and hitting one bullseye.

I would hope that on the whole, AI disclosures are still a good thing. But just know they aren’t pure.
010
The other robot @emitc2h.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
I don’t think it’s possible for them to avoid model collapse if they keep pushing us to use AI for everything, but it sucks they can use what appears to be a defense mechanism against slop to make the slop slightly less sloppy for a bit longer.
100
The other robot @emitc2h.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
One thing that annoys me with all of the AI disclosure tools becoming popular on various platforms is that they can also be used by AI companies to exclude AI generated content from their training data.
100
The other robot @emitc2h.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
I mean a large number of attempts at counter-examples. Anyway, the important part is the brute-force part. Raw brute-force would have been ineffective, but brute-force informed by tons of reasoning examples from math papers, yeah I totally believe that would yield something eventually.
110
The other robot @emitc2h.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
No. But the various pieces required to brute force a large number of counter-examples was there.
110
The other robot @emitc2h.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
That’s what keeps the illusion going. People have no inkling on how much data these things have ingested, and how much of the “reasoning” they see is just following a script that exists in the training data. LLMs memorize and interpolate. They don’t reason.

Here's a video breaking down the shader I made for this effect. Topics include the tangent space, vertex color, UV maps, etc. I also explain my Blender-Godot workflow since creating an effect like this required me to iterate between the two. #godot #gamedev #indiedev youtu.be/lJs4P3QzMGs

I've generalized the plasma filaments to make lightning too. It's basically the same shader with different colors and some added noise, and different lifetimes. #godot #gamedev #indiedev

This is a bit of a wake up call for me. I’ve made the decision to make my code public and my assets private before agentic coding tools were a thing. I still want to help whoever might want to learn with/from me. But yeah, I’ll probably encrypt my code and assets when shipping.

This has nothing to do with open source or knowledge sharing. This has everything to do with consent, greed, and exploitation. Idealized fantasies do not help when the survival of a medium and its creators is threatened by forceful extraction of labor and mass-replication.

Here's the plasma effect in the game! I wanted the Scouts to attempt to revive each other when downed. The mechanic is not ready for primetime, but you can already see the benefits of the procedural nature of the plasma VFX. #Godot #gamedev #indiedev

There are 2-3 wobble effects that compound here, and yes, the waves along the filaments are done in the vertex function of the shader. The others have to do with manipulating the ends of each curve, which is done in GdScript.
