I call today Colonialism Day. A day (like all days) for us settlers to raise the voices of the people who carry this land that we came to live on. Red Rebel Armour is having a 39% off t-shirt sale. Use code: SEAN39 redrebelarmour.ca/collections/... #canada #canadaday #politics #indigenous #native
Text says:
Hey Relative,
Today is July 1.
For some, that means fireworks, flags, and a day off. But for many Indigenous people, Canada Day feels different. Because before Canada, there were Nations already here.
With languages.
Laws.
Ceremonies.
Families.
Governance.
And land-based knowledge.
That is why you’ll hear some people call it KKKanada Day.
Not because they hate people.
But because they are naming the truth.
The truth about stolen land.
Residential schools.
Broken treaties.
And systems that still hurt our people today.
So today, we’re not saying
“Happy Canada Day.”
We’re saying:
We’re still here.
Still creating.
Still speaking.
Still wearing the truth.

Miigwech,
Sean (Red Rebel Armour)

A photo of the corner of a room, painted with yellow and pink background, and a thicket of shrubs with bent stems and branches and pea-like green and blue leaves, fading into the mists. The whole thing is swoopy and permeated with white wind. This is a painting by Emily van Lidth de Jeude, in her usual style (although for murals, which is generally less political than her public work).

I'm often astonished at the sheer number and range of supplies, decisions and solutions that go into building a book!! I just measured and poked 1,128 holes into those pages, by the way. Hopefully they line up nicely when I sew them in!!! #art #artist #bookbinding #bookmaking #canadianartist #wip
A table covered in way too many bookmaking tools and papers to accurately describe. It is a MESS. A mess that includes, among many other things, two stacked of book pages with holes punched in them, a partially covered book-board cover, printed fabric, many many paper off-site, an iron, a drill, an exact knife, a aerated kitchen knife, small and large scissors, a selection of variously sizes awls and other bookmaking supplies, string, and... Oh wait these are ALL bookmaking supplies!!! Goodness.
