Made these with a tool I've been building as a side project. It takes a set of images and arranges them using different styles, treatments, and colors. One of the biggest challenges has been trying to bake my own artistic sense into the styles. #collage #generativeart #digitalart #mixedmedia #art
Digital collage of three vintage vessels — a striped oval, a black-and-white ceramic pot, and a dark vase with pink linework — arranged on a coral background with a yellow rectangle.Black-and-white digital collage of a vintage woman's face, a classical sculpted head, and a seated dog, with a large solid black circle behind them.Digital collage of a classical statue reaching upward beside an ornate heart-shaped shield, rendered in a grainy purple and yellow duotone like a risograph printSymmetrical digital collage of a figure in trousers repeated and mirrored into a cross shape, with small clusters of birds at each of the four points, on a rust-orange background.

Latest piece, Sisters of Napoli, 30x22in, gouache.
Painting of two nuns facing away from viewer walking down a narrow corridor in Naples Italy. Vibrant colors are used to create atmosphere and draw the viewers eye in, a combination of warm reds and deep blues. Buildings with texture recede into the background.

Proud of this piece, She Knows. At 22” x 30”, it’s my largest painting yet, done in gouache. Working at this scale has me excited to keep exploring larger work. Finishing it brought me back to my time in Naples.
A gouache painting, 22 x 30 inches, showing a woman in a vivid red shawl seated on a muted Italian city street. She holds a cigarette to her lips, her face in profile to the viewer and her gaze looking to the right of the viewer. In the background, a man walks past, his figure slightly blurred in motion. On the street in the background a small bird stands still. The contrast between the bright red shawl and the subdued surroundings draws attention to her presence at the center of the scene.

New painting, a pet portrait of Snacks, commissioned by some dear friends. Gouache, 16 x 20 in. The inspiration—“paint me like one of your French girls.” Being able to create something meaningful for others is such an honor ♥️

I’m giving a talk tonight to the San Francisco Gem & Mineral society about lapidary / geological inspirations from my residency in Naples, and sharing some of the art I made there. Here’s a watercolor sketch from Ischia, one that explicitly captures the geological beauty in the environment.
A sketchbook being held open and in front of the environment where the sketch being shown was painted. The sketch is of a beautiful cliff cascading into the sea, as seen from a rocky beach that is surrounded by the cliffs. The painting is from the island of Ischia near Naples, Italy. A small boat is in the foreground of the sketch. The colors are primarily earth tones like ochre and Venetian red for the cliffs combined with hints of indigo blue in the cliff and for the water and sky

Night ride, 2024, gouache, 14” x 11”
A gouache painting of a narrow street in Naples, Italy at night. A person riding a motorcycle is visible in the center, heading away from the viewer. The colors are warm reds and orangish hues in the foreground where the light from the motorcycle reflects in the environment and blues and purple hues in the background where the night sky and shadows cast on the tall apartment buildings surrounding the street. No other people are visible in the painting other than the motorcycle rider.

A plein air sketch (watercolor and ink) from my time in Paris this past November. It was the end of my artist residency in Naples and I wanted a few days in one of my favorite cities before heading home. Now that time all feels like it was a dream.
A photograph of a small sketchbook being held in front of the context in which the sketch was made. The sketch is of a scene in Paris along the Seine. There are some classic Paris residential buildings in the background and some trees and a hint of the river in the foreground. The colors are mostly muted.

Resist greed. Resist fascism. systemerrors.neocities.org
An flyer taped to a telephone pole. The flyer has a black and white grainy hand with a suit cuff visible, dangling strings that go down the page. In all caps san serif under the hand it reads ‘tech billionaires don’t disrupt systems. They own them.’ In smaller text at the bottom of the page it says ‘resist greed. Resist fascism.’ Underneath that it says ‘made in collaboration with AI’

Spent the weekend exploring the low Sonoran desert. Got a quick sketch in from the car looking at some beautiful cliffs in the Kofa wilderness. Done in about 15 minutes using watercolor.

I’ve always loved rocks and last year I joined the San Francisco Gem and Mineral Society. I’ve been going once a week to work on turning rocks I find into cabochons and silver jewelry. Last May I went on a field trip to Nevada to mine for turquoise. I’m still working my way through this material!

There is so much to be angry about right now. I feel it. And I don’t know where I want to channel it yet. For now, I will keep sharing my art. Here’s one of my favorite paintings from 2023. Floating, 16 x 12, gouache

Looking for a safe space to share and connect with creative community. Here’s a recent painting I did, inspired by my artist residency in Naples, Italy. At peace, gouache, 14” x 10”
