⭐⭐⭐⭐ I read this and enjoyed it and then I read a review that said it's designed to be read twice (it's 47 pages) and it's true and was even better the second time. #BookSky

as long as you didn't berserk straight up. The ridge was also not exposed (it is long, so was worried I was in a state for hours) and the walk itself is varied with excellent views (those 1st summit in cloud). Walk report from @walkhighlands.co.uk www.walkhighlands.co.uk/argyll/ben-c...

⛰️Ben Cruachan & Stob Daimh (#57-58). I was worried about these to point of budgeting time for a panic attack, but like much of life the thought of it was worse than actually doing it. There's a slabby bit that was described in some reports in such a way that it sounded scary but was entirely fine..

Planned a munro today but my wife woke up a bit run down but I was in the "I need to see mountains again Gandalf" zone, so with wifely blessing (I didn't just abandon her), I took myself up a couple of Corbetts, The Brack and Cnoc Còinnich. An almost scramble ascent in places and then pathless bits.

8 hours, 17.5km, 1500m of ascent, and one scary cow. Stunning. Alpine forests, wildflower meadows that were so large and had so many bees the buzz sounded like a machibe, butterflies, and birds and jagged cliffs. Such a contrast to the often bare hills of Scotland. No notes.

I am increasingly frustrated by responses to GenAI that simply howl "authentic assessment" as if it's a panacea to the crisis of learning and assessment we're currently in so I was very taken by this perspective on assessment of learning vs assessment for learning.
Before introducing existing assessment frameworks, it is important to clarify our scope. As weknow, assessment serves multiple purposes (Boud 2000). Assessment for learning is important(Carless 2017). However, in this paper we are concerned with moments of assessment of learningwhere there is a desire to in some way control student use of GenAI to enable judgements tobe made about student capability. These moments are essential for assessment in higher educa-tion to deliver on its promise of ensuring that graduates can do what their university says theycan do. With this focus established, we now turn to examine three of the most dominant kindsof AI focused assessment frameworks.

No easy answers but a useful framework for discussing changes that need to be made to assessment. We cannot rely on discursive changes to maintain integrity - "permitting any use of AI effectively permits all use of AI". Full paper: www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.... #AcademicSky
Abstract
Generative AI (GenAI) challenges assessment validity by enabling students to complete tasks without demonstrating genuine capability. In response to this challenge, institutions have developed and implemented various approaches that aim to communicate permissible AI use to students. Familiar examples include the ‘traffic light’ approach now commonly found within institutional policy. While well-intentioned, these approaches share a common limitation: They focus primarily on communicating rules rather than redesigning assessment mechanics. To clarify why such approaches fail, and to guide more effective responses, this paper introduces a novel conceptual distinction between discursive changes to assessment (modifications relying solely on instructions students remain free to ignore) and structural changes (modifications that reshape the underlying mechanics of assessment tasks themselves). Through a critical analysis of prominent frameworks, we demonstrate that current approaches predominantly rely on discursive changes that create what we term an ‘enforcement illusion’. We find that educational frameworks frequently borrow the language of socially familiar structural systems (like vehicular traffic lights) while lacking their actual enforcement capabilities, creating an illusion of assessment security. In place of this, we argue for a shift towards structural assessment redesign that builds validity into assessment architecture rather than attempting to impose it through unenforceable rules.
